SSBR 2026 Fall Preview: Moss Pirates

Returning several players from a team that won 25 games in the Spring, Moss looks to go even further this Fall

The calendar has turned to the a new school year and that means the OSSAA high school Fall baseball season will be here soon. The season officially gets underway on August 10, but teams can play games before then if both teams have already started school.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 Fall season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Classification: B

2025 Fall Results: 16-11

2026 Spring Results: 25-5

Head Coach: Daxton Carter

Head coaching experience: 2nd year (all at Moss)

Top Returners

  • Jackson O’kelley– .564, 14 2B, 6 HR 3.20 ERA 65 SO; Looking to have another great season at the plate and on the bump. he’s added some power at the plate and Velo on the bump. Middle on the lineup guy this year for us that will have some major juice
  • Tate Keese– .432, 23 SB, 0.70 ERA, 41 SO, 41IP; Tate will remain in the leadoff spot while also filling the full time reliever roll this fall. Looking to have another dominate fall on the bump.
  • Landon Golden– .484, 14 SB 1.60 ERA 54 SO; Landon will remain as a full time starter on the bump while still holding down the middle of the lineup
  • Heston Nolen– .410 Avg 11 2B, 5 HR 2.20 ERA; Heston has filled his role as the cleanup in our lineup and has really added the muscle this summer and is looking to have a explosive year at the plate
  • Garrett LaGrone– .328 4 2B; We are glad to have Garrett healthy this fall, after a elbow injury last spring, Garrett is looking to have a huge fall on the bump and at the plate
  • Levi Foster– .415 5 2B 17 SB (100% SB%); After really turning it on late in the spring Levi is looking to pick up right where he left off with the hot stick
  • Manning Robertson– 1.60 ERA only allowed 5 earned runs all spring. Will also be in the relief position this fall

Top Newcomers

  • Gauge Lockhart– Transfer that will be one of the best arms in our class. Will play SS/3B for us and hit at the top of the lineup.
  • Micah Wheeler– Transfer that has big shoes to fill in the outfield after what we lost last year, but has the speed and the stick to make an immediate impact to our offense
  • Easton Smith– Young pup that has a big stick at the plate and an improved glove from what we seen last year
  • Lane Upchurch– young pup who has to fill some big shoes in the outfield

Team strengths

Our pitching staff is deep. We have 7 guys that we will run out at anybody that will give us a chance to win. We have made some major jumps this summer and this is no longer the Moss of last year. Every one of the guys are Bigger, Faster, and Stronger than they were last season.

Team needs to work on

It doesn’t matter how hard you throw it, how fast you are, or how strong you are if you can’t score runs. Our main focus heading into this fall is putting more runs on the board.

Outlook

We are planning on playing baseball in October. The boys have put the work in all summer and its time to see what we are made of. Every single team is better than last year and I am excited to see how we stack up against the rest of the class.
