The Oklahoma Sooners opened their sting at the 2026 College World Series just like they have the five previous games. The offense showed up and the pitching was dominant.
OU opened the game scoring 2 runs in the top half of the 1st inning. Trey Gambill set the tone on a 2 strike, 2 out double bringing in 2 runs.
The Sooners got on the board again in the 3rd when Deiten Lachance brought in a run on a 5-4-3 double play ground out after Jason Walk and Camden Johnson got on base to start the inning.
In the 6th inning, things got loud for the Sooners when Lachance hit a ball with an exit velo of 110 mph over the left field wall for a 2 run bomb to bring the lead to 5-0 for OU.
The big inning for the Sooners and the one to really seal the deal for OU was the 8th inning. All 9 batters in the Sooners’ lineup came to the plate as they scored 4 runs on 5 hits and a walk. Jaxon Willits and Brendan Brock got RBI hits for OU while Dasan Harris ended the scoring with a 2 run base hit to end the scoring for the game.
On the mound, Cord Rager and LJ Mercurius combined for 5 hits, no walks, and 10 K for the Sooners. True freshman, Rager pitched his best game as a Sooner for the 3rd straight start as he went 7 complete allowing only 3 hits and striking out 8. He was in complete control and was the most efficient he had all season.
The Sooners will play the winner of Georgia/Texas on Monday night in a winners bracket game.
Select OU stats:
– Rager (W): 7 IP, 3 H, 8 K
