When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best high school team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR Dominant Dozen.
We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.
For example, are we saying that teams at the lower classes are better than say the top 6A teams? Maybe, maybe not. Most of the top upper class teams have more depth than the lower class teams and they would most likely win a series with them. But relative to their level, those lower class teams may be having a better season than the upper class teams.
It is not an exact science, but when we do the rankings we look at a number of factors. Win/loss record. How is that team doing against their own class? How did they do versus teams in classifications higher than theirs? District play for 3A-6A teams. Head to head.
Using those factors we rank the teams based on how they are doing relative to their level. We have a panel in 2026 and the rankings points are then compiled to form the rankings.
As a reminder, our first two Dominant Dozen champs were Tuttle (4A) in 2023, Oktaha (2A) in 2024, and our first Sweet Sixteen champ was Blanchard (4A) in 2025.
*The Rankings last year year expanded to 16, thus the “Sweet Sixteen.”
This is for fun, so please treat it as such.
Let’s take a look at the final rankings for the 2026 season.
*The voters for the Sweet 16 were instructed to rank the state champions in the first nine spots of their rankings.

1. Tuttle Tigers (4A), 36-4; Prev: 1
Tuttle is the #1 team in the SSBR rankings for the 2nd time in 4 years after winning the inaugural rankings in 2023.
The Tigers were impressive all season long. Their deep pitching staff combined with one of, if not the best, lineup 1-9 was a mountain too tall for teams to climb. They ended the season winning their last 16 games and had not lost since April 10. Over their 9 undefeated postseason games, Tuttle outscored their opponents 89-11, with 4 shutouts.
2. Okarche Warriors (A-1), 23-5; Prev: 8
After dominating in the Fall season, Okarche was the odds on favorite to win the Class A-1 championship in the Spring. Sometimes expectations like that can weigh down on a squad and they don’t perform up to said expectations.
That was NOT the case for the Warriors in 2026. The 5 losses the Warriors had were all to teams in classes above them with one of them a one run loss to Tuttle. Okarche won their last 9 games including their 6 postseason games with all of those games shutouts until the state title game vs Dewar which they won convincingly, 8-3. In fact, they beat their 3 opponents in the state tournament a combined 30-3.
3. Mustang Broncos (6A), 39-6; Prev: 6
Class 6A may have had the most parity of any classification in 2026. However, Mustang was the most consistent of the teams in 6A.
When the dust settled, not only did Mustang win the Class 6A title, they emerged with the most wins (39) of any team in the state. The were the District Champs of a district that also had the state runner up (Edmond Santa Fe) and a state semifinalist (Yukon). Over the course of the season, the Broncos were 4-1 against those teams.
4. Preston Pirates (2A-2) 29-5; Prev: NR
Preston jumped up to #4 in the final rankings based on their dominance of the 2A-2 class. They were voted the #1 team by the coaches for all but the first 2 of the OSSAA rankings. Four of their five losses came to teams in classes bigger than 2A-2.
The Pirates finished the season on a 9 game winning streak scoring 74 runs in their 6 postseason games.
5. Washington Warriors (3A), 33-7; Prev: 11
Washington won the Class 3A state championship for the 5th season in a row. Read that again, Washington won the Class 3A state championship for the 5th season in a row.
It wasn’t all perfect in 2026, but the Warriors were able to find different ways to win when it mattered. After dropping a game in their Regional, the Warriors beat that same team (Alva) to advance to Areas where they swept Victory Christian.
The offense really came through in the state tournament where they beat Dewey, 8-2, in the opener before winning a score fest vs Davis, 15-13. In the state championship, they jumped out to a big lead early beating Marlow for the 2nd year in a row, 9-4.
6. Carl Albert Titans (5A), 33-10; Prev: NR
After an up and down season according to their standings, Carl Albert emerged the state champion once again in Class 5A. This was their 3rd title in 4 seasons, and the 4th in the last 6 seasons.
The Titans beat 2 teams that many thought would be the champ in the semis (Pryor) and and finals (Bishop Kelley). Pryor was another 30 squad and Bishop Kelley had split their previous 2 games with Carl Albert earlier in the season.
7. Rattan Rams (A-2), 26-4; Prev: NR
After a great start to the season, the Rams stumbled a bit in the 2nd week of April losing 4 of 5. After righting the ship, the Rams ended the season on a 13 game winning streak showing they were the definitive top team in A-1.
In their 6 postseason games, the Rams outscored their opponents 59-6 scoring double digit runs in all until the championship game where they beat Canute, 5-1.
8. Calumet Chieftains (B), 22-6; Prev: NR
Much like Okarche, Calumet was the favorite in Class B after winning the Fall State Championship. While the Chieftains did lose 6 games this season, four of those losses were to other state champs (Okarche 2x, Tuttle, and Washington) and the other two to state seminfinalists (Cashion and Newcastle).
Calumet outscored their postseason opponents 67-7 with 4 of them shutouts.
9. Latta Panthers (2A-1), 28-3; Prev: NR
If you had to name a team that was the quietest state champ in 2026, it was the Latta Panthers. However, looking at the Panthers’ season, it is easy to see they had one of the best seasons of any team in the state.
After getting a late start to the season, Latta had wins over teams that were state qualifiers in Calera (2x), Midwest City, Tushka, Colbert. Two of their losses came to top teams in Marlow and Dale.
- Marlow comes in at #10 with a record of 36-5 and a state runner up finish in 3A. The Outlaws previously were ranked #3 and were the #1 seed in 3A before getting upset by Washington in the state championship.
- Mount St Mary finishes in the 11th spot after a state runner up finish in Class 4A. The Rockets beat the 2 seed, Elgin, in the semis and finished with a 32-8 record (the first 30 win season in school history). MSM was in the Sweet Sixteen in every rankings this season and was #7 in the previous ranking.
- Coming in at 12 is Bishop Kelley. The Comets spent some time in the Sweet Sixteen including #1 a couple of weeks early in the season before stumbling. BK caught their footing and finished with a 32-12 record and were an inning and a half from a 5A championship before falling to Carl Albert.
- Dewar was clearly the 2nd best team in Class A-1 and looks like they would’ve been the state champ in just about any other year if it wasn’t for the dominance of Okarche. The Dragons had spent some time in the Sweet Sixteen earlier in the season before finishing 13th and finish with a record of 29-5.
- Elgin comes in at 14 and is the only team in the rankings that didn’t finish at least runner up. The Owls spent a week at #1 and was a top ten team in the Sweet Sixteen all season. An upset loss to Mount St Mary in the semis kept the much anticipated matchup vs Tuttle from happening. The Owls finished with a 36-5 record.
- Coming in at 15 is Colbert. Colbert upset the SSBR Sweet Sixteen #2 and top Class 2A-1 team Dale in the state semifinals. The Leopards finished with a record of 31-7 and state runner up to Latta in 2A-1 losing the championship game 6-5.
- Rounding out the rankings at 16 is Canute. The Trojans were the state runner up to Rattan in Class A-2, and finished with a record of 25-5.
