We are in the middle of Spring Break for the high schools here in Oklahoma and several events are rolling on.

One of the biggest events in Oklahoma in terms of the number of teams and the matchups starts on Thursday – the Edmond Spring Break Festival.

The Festival will take place over three days and will be played at 9 different locations at times and will have teams from Class B up through 6A and included some top teams from out of state as well.

While SSBR will report the scores for each game, for this preview we will look at a few games on the schedule.

Dale Pirates (2A-1) vs Verdigris Cardinals (4A), Thursday (1:30 p.m.) at Choctaw High School

This will be the first game of the season for the Pirates as their school’s basketball team had several baseball players winning a state championship up to the week prior. Dale is coming off a Fall season that saw them win over 30 games in Cody Merrell’s first season in Dale.

Verdigris has started the season winning 7 of their first 8 games with their lone loss a 1 run loss. The Cardinals have dominated their opponents scoring at least 15 runs in 6 of their 7 wins.

#2 Edmond Memorial Bulldogs (6A) vs #14 Canute Trojans (A-2), Friday (1:30 p.m.) at Edmond Memorial High School

This is a matchup that we probably don’t see very much outside a Festival format – top teams in 6A vs A-2.

Memorial was considered the 6A favorite by most prognosticators to begin the season. They’ve started 5-1 with their lone loss to Tuttle.

Coming off a state runner up finish in Class A in the Fall, Canute is also conisdered the favorite in A-1 by most prognositcators in the Spring. The Trojans have started 5-0 with 3 of those wins over higher class teams.

Mustang Broncos vs #1 Bishop Kelley Comets, Friday (1:30 p.m.) at Mustang High School

Mustang comes into the Festival at 9-1 and playing as well as any team in Class 6A. Their lone loss was against District rival and 2025 State Champ Edmond Santa Fe on the road.

Bishop Kelley is currently the SSBR #1 team in our Sweet Sixteen rankings. The Comets have wins at 6A power Owasso and against 5A power Carl Albert at a neutral site.
