The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Moore Lions

Classification: 6A

2025 Spring Results: 22-14

Head Coach: Joe Haddox

Head coaching experience: 3 years (1 at Moore)

Top Returners

  • Maverick Gardner (Johnson County signee), 2026 SS/RHP – COAC Defensive Player of the Year as a junior, Maverick anchors our defense at the SS position. He leads with a quiet confidence and is a leader on and off the field for us. 4-sport athlete and excels at all of them.
  • Cole Gossett (Seminole State signee), 2026 RHP/3B – 2nd Team COAC as a pitcher last season, Cole led our team in essentially every pitching category a year ago and looks to do the same this season.
  • Grady Glidden, 2027 LHP/1B – Grady struggled through injuries as a sophomore that limited his ability to contribute on the mound and at the plate, but threw 50 Varsity innings as a freshman. Looking forward to a healthy junior campaign for him both on the mound and manning first base.
  • Ethan Workman, 2026 OF – Ethan was our table setter in the leadoff spot last year and plays an aggressive style of offense that elevates our game.

Top Newcomers

  • Preston Kutej, 2027 OF – Preston transferred in this offseason and is the true definition of lightning in a bottle. He is an exceptionally explosive athlete with great feel for the strike zone and good base running instincts. Really excited to watch him compete this spring.
  • David Miller, 2027 MIF/RHP – Elite base running instincts paired with above average speed and athleticism. He can really pick it and has developed himself as a hitter. Good three pitch mix on the mound with a lively FB.
  • Braylon Henry, 2026 3B/1B – Braylon got limited run as a junior but has tremendous raw power and embodies everything we preach as a coaching staff. He is diligent in his work and asks the right questions. One of the guys who leads through example and is not afraid to be vocal on the field.
  • Blaine Stafford, 2029 LHP/1B/OF – Physically and mentally mature for a young kid, craves coaching and has an advanced approach to his development. On top of that, the stuff on the mound has tremendous upside.
  • Miles Voegele, 2029 INF – Versatile infielder that also is physically and mentally mature for his age. Present bat speed and foot speed. Another name to watch for in terms of opportunity this spring.

Overall Team Strengths

Our front line starting pitchers should give us a chance to win every Monday/Tuesday. Their ability to be efficient and work deep into games will dictate a lot of our success. We have great team speed and the core of our defense is strong.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

We will have some inexperience in several spots, with a lot of guys getting consistent Varsity run for the first time. Our bullpen depth will be tested, as we graduated a lot of innings there.

Outlook

This group is exciting. The expectation is to be playing our best ball in May and competing for a state title. That being said, as a staff we are most excited to just watch these guys compete. The talent is present and the pieces are there, putting it all together is the key. Shaping up to be a fun spring, can’t wait.
