The Summer break is almost over and schools in Oklahoma will begin the 2025-2026 school soon. That also means that it is almost time for the 2025 High School Fall season to start.

The season officially opens on Monday, August 11 (or sooner if both schools are already in session). For the next few weeks, we will be previewing several teams as they look forward to the season.

Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the head coaches of the schools playing baseball this Fall. We asked about their returning players, top players, strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment of where their teams are and could be.

Today’s team: Colbert Leopards

Classification: 2A

Fall 2024 Results: 22-14

Spring 2025 Results: 28-9 (Class 2A-2 State Semifinalist)

Outlook

Colbert took a major step forward in Zach Crabtree’s first year at the helm. Coming over from Southeastern Oklahoma State, Crabtree orchestrated a culture change in the Leopard’s program in ’24-’25 school year as they won a total of 50 games combined and earning a State Tournament semifinals appearance in the Spring.

Crabtree says the Leopards have to “work hard every day, and compete against the ball not worrying who is in the other dugout.” He says further, “The majority of baseball games are not won, but lost. We need to continue to focus on throwing strikes and making routine plays.”

Expectations are high in Colbert as the Leopards return 6 of their top players from ’24-’25 along with a couple of move ins and several freshmen who were successful in junior high. They are so high in fact, the Leopards expect to be playing the 2nd weekend of October.
