(This preview was provided by Kevin Farr – longtime play by play man for silorebels.tv)
The Summer break is almost over and schools in Oklahoma will begin the 2025-2026 school soon. That also means that it is almost time for the 2025 High School Fall season to start.
The season officially opens on Monday, August 11 (or sooner if both schools are already in session). For the next few weeks, we will be previewing several teams as they look forward to the season.
Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the head coaches of the schools playing baseball this Fall. We asked about their returning players, top players, strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment of where their teams are and could be.
Today’s team: Silo Rebels
Classification: 2A
Fall 2024 Results: 29-4 (Class 2A State Champions)
Spring 2025 Results: 30-6 (Class 3A State Semifinalist)
Head Coach: Eddie Jeffcoat
Head coaching experience: 17th year (3rd year at Silo)
Top Returning Players
- Zane Sander, SR (SS): Third year starter as lead off hitter. .388 avg last spring and has led team in runs scored four straight seasons. Cowley County commit.
- Sam Mendenall, SR (UT/RHP): Glue guy as a third year starter that can play multiple positions. Top returning run producer with 31 RBI in the 2025 spring. Key cog in a deep pitching staff with several big game appearances with double digit innings over last four seasons.
- Aiden McCarty, JR (OF/RHP): Blossomed into one team’s top pitchers last spring and provides pop from left side of the plate. Led team with 42 2/3 innings last spring with 6-0 record, 31 K and 1.64 ERA. Hit .395 with 15 RBI over last month of season after moving into a full time starting role.
- Nolan Northcott, JR (3B/RHP): Mainstay at third base and will provide power in heart of order. Develop into club’s relief pitching ace last spring, yielding just one run in 14 appearances while striking out 31 and notching a sparking 0.33 ERA.
- Cord Standridge, SR (OF): Part time starter throughout last year and expected to thrive in full time role after hitting .310 as a junior.
- Cannon Atwood, SO (1B/LHP): Gained valuable experience as a freshman starter that included several key hits. Will see more mound time this fall as well.
Top Newcomers
- Warner Bradley, SO (2B): Flashed glimpses of tremendous potential, especially with a stellar glove coming off the bench a year ago.
- Ty Hatley, SO (C): Expected to be a key addition behind the plate after moving in during the summer. Will add another lefthanded bat in a versatile lineup.
- While their varsity opportunities were limited due to an overly deep pitching staff Blane Beauchamp (JR) and Doc Nuffer (SO) dazzled last year with their tall frames and will shoulder more of the load this time around.
Outlook
Although they lost their five leading hitters by average from last spring, the Rebels are expected to reload quickly with young reinforcements that have been waiting for their opportunity. Several of those shined a year ago in helping the JV squad to multiple varsity tournament titles.
Versatility, athleticism and depth will be key components, especially from a pitching staff that should once again be one of the deepest in any class this fall.
The core returning cast is long on experience and knows how to win when it matters as the Rebels have reached the fall state finals each of the past four years.
