It is here. The last weekend of the regular season in the Great American Conference. It is hard to believe we are already here, but for 4 of the Oklahoma squads in the conference, this will be the last weekend they play.
The GAC has 12 teams (6 from Oklahoma and 6 from Arkansas) in the conference, but take only 8 to the postseason tournament. All 6 of the Arkansas teams have qualified for the tournament leaving only 2 spots remaining.
For 2 Oklahoma teams (East Central and Southern Nazarene) they are mathematically eliminated from the postseason. The remaining 4 (NWOSU, Southeastern OK St, Oklahoma Baptist, and SWOSU) are separated by 3 games and how they do this weekend will determine who gets the #7 and #8 seeds in the GAC Championship.
Let’s take a look at the scenarios.

NWOSU Rangers
- Current place: 7th
- Best possible finish: 7th
- Worst possible finish: 10th (out of postseason)
- Record vs SEOSU: 2-1
- Record vs OBU: 3-0
SWOSU Bulldogs
- Current place: 10th
- Best possible finish: 7th
- Worst possible finish: 11th (out of postseason)
- Record vs SEOSU: 2-1
- Record vs OBU: 1-2
We are grouping the Rangers and Bulldogs together because they play each other this weekend.
For NWOSU, it is simple: win one game this weekend and they’re are in. That’ll put them at 15 wins which will mean SWOSU can’t catch them and the best OBU could do is tie them. The Rangers have the tie breaker vs the Bison.
If SWOSU sweeps NWOSU, that’ll put them in a tie with NWOSU at 14-18 and the Bulldogs will have the tie breaker over the Rangers, but they will have to hope SE Oklahoma State loses 2 games this weekend and OBU doesn’t win more than 1. The Bulldogs have the tie breaker over SEOSU but don’t vs OBU.
Southeastern Oklahoma State Savage Storm
- Current place: 8th
- Best possible finish: 7th
- Worst possible finish: 10th (out of the postseason)
- Record vs NWOSU: 1-2
- Record vs OBU: 2-1
- Record vs SWOSU: 1-2
- Opponent this weekend: at East Central
If the Savage Storm sweeps the Tigers this weekend, they are in. The only question would be if they are 7th or 8th. In order for the Storm to overtake NWOSU, they’d have to sweep ECU while NWOSU would have to lose 2 of their 3 games to SWOSU.
If SEOSU finishes tied alone with OBU, the Storm wins the tiebreaker by virtue of their series win in Durant earlier this season.
If SEOSU gets swept by ECU and SWOSU wins 2 of 3 vs NWOSU, then the Bulldogs will win the tie breaker over the Savage Storm by virtue of their series win vs SE earlier this season.
Oklahoma Baptist Bison
- Current place: 9th
- Best possible finish: 7th
- Worst possible finish: 10th (out of the postseason)
- Record vs NWOSU: 0-3
- Record vs SEOSU: 1-2
- Record vs SWOSU: 2-1
- Opponent this weekend: at Southern Nazarene
The Bison are fortunate in that they are playing the last place Crimson Storm this weekend.
If they sweep SNU, the Bison could still be on the outside looking in. They will need to finish one game ahead of NWOSU and SEOSU since the Rangers swept the Bison earlier this month and the Storm won their series with OBU. However, if they finish tied alone with SWOSU, they win that tiebreaker.
Once we get past the fact that only 2 Oklahoma teams will make the GAC Tournament again, this should be a fun weekend.
It is important to note that all of the scenarios listed above is if 2 teams tie. It there are multiple teams tied for a certain spot, we do not know what the tiebreakers will be since we could not find them on the GAC website. In that case we will post on our socials who made the GAC Tournament and in what position.
