Over the last couple of years, SSBR has put a focus on teams traveling out of state on Spring Break. However, we’ve seen a few events in the Sooner State start to keep those teams in state over the week that are becoming big time events where several top teams from across the classes are playing.

One of those events starts Wednesday at Tuttle High School hosts the BSN Spring Break Festival. A total of 9 schools will be playing in Tuttle over 4 days – Tuttle, Bethany, Chickasha, Collinsville, Elgin, Lawton MacArthur, Newcastle, Oologah, and Weatherford.

Three of those nine schools are currently ranked in the SSBR Sweet 16 – #1 Newcastle, #5 Collinsville, #11 Elgin.

Let’s take a look at some of the marquee matchups.

Chickasha vs Newcastle, Wednesday 5:00 p.m.

This is a matchup of Class 4A title contenders. Both teams made the Class 4A State Tournament in 2024 and are off to a good start in 2025.

Chickasha is off to a 5-2 start with 4 of their wins in district. Two different Fightin’ Chicks pitchers have won the SSBR Pitcher of the Week award the first 2 weeks – Layton Bryan and Tyson Owens who threw a no hitter last week. The 2 losses have come against SSBR #3 Mount St Mary and SSBR #8 Blanchard.

Newcastle comes into this week undefeated at 7-0. The Racers have beaten 3 top level 6A teams – Edmond Santa Fe, Owasso, and Broken Arrow. Newcastle is currently #1 in the SSBR Sweet 16 and Taj Smith was the 4A Player of the Week for Week 2.

Bethany vs Newcastle, Thursday 10:00 a.m.

Bethany comes into the week at 6-1 with their lone loss to fellow participant Weatherford in district play. Charlie Tolle was also named the 4A Pitcher of the Week for Week 2 as he also threw a no hitter last week.

Collinsville vs Elgin, Thursday 7:20 p.m.

This matchup of top 5A teams will close out Thursday night.

Collinsvillle comes into the week at #5 in the SSBR Sweet 16 on the strength of a run rule win over Carl Albert on Saturday. The Cardinals also have wins over fellow participant Oologah, 6A Jenks, and they are Berryhill’s only loss.

Elgin came into the season with high expectations. The Owls are currently 6-0 on the season with a win over Weatherford. Elgin is currently at #11 in the SSBR Sweet 16.

These 2 teams met in the State Tournament last year with Collinsville winning 9-0.

Tuttle vs Collinsville, Friday 12:20 p.m.

Tuttle is consistently one of the best teams regardless of classification in the state of Oklahoma. Winning the 4A State Championship in 2023, the Tigers were also crowned the SSBR Dominant Dozen champion. Tuttle made it to the state semifinals in 2024 where they were upset by eventual state champ, Marlow. The Tigers are 6-2 this season with their losses to SSBR #2 Edmond Memorial and SSBR #15 Washington.
