The 2025 season is here and so are the weekly SSBR awards. Last year we began bringing attention to individual performances turned in by those on small college (NCAA D2, NAIA, NCCAA) teams and junior colleges.
Each week we send out nomination forms to the head coaches of each team in the various divisions above. We ask them to nominate only 1 position player and 1 pitcher with their stats for the week and any context they feel would help their player. We look at those nominations and choose the player or pitcher in each category that we feel had the best week. Also, each player or pitcher nominated will get recognized even if they don’t win.
This week was a little different as the weather caused havoc on the schedule. Teams played less games or no games at all so the sample sizes were smaller. Also, several weekend series weren’t completed until Monday, so we pushed back the award a day as well.
Without further ado, let’s take a look at the winners for Week 5.
Small College
Player of the Week
Trey Migl (OF), Oklahoma Christian Eagles

The Eagles have been “close” several times this season and this past weekend they the series win over Texas A&M International, 3-1. A big reason for the series win was Trey Migl. The Piedmont/Carl Albert State alum had struggled a little bit to start the season, but with his performance this past weekend, Migl raised his batting average over 130 points to .340 on the season.
Migl’s line for the week: G 4, 10-18, .556/.578/.889, HR, 7 RBI, 2B, 3B, BB, 6 R, 3 SB
Other players considered:
- Gage Ninness, USAO Drovers: G 3, .583/.583/.667, 4 RBI, 2B, 4 R
- Taiga Sakuma, MACU Evangels: G 4, .571/.700/.857, HR, 4 RBI, 2B, 6 BB, 6 R, 4 SB
- Jhors Gomez, SCU Eagles: G 4, .438/.471/.750, 5 RBI, 3 2B, BB, 3 R
Pitcher of the Week
Fabian Hernandez (RHP), MACU Evangels

Coming into the season the question was how long it would take the pitching staff to come into shape. During the Evangels current 11 game winning streak, we are seeing that staff come into shape.
Fabian Hernandez is a big reason for that and he showed why this past week. Hernandez pitched in 2 games this week – one start and one relief appearance. In the start he went 6 innings while his relief appearance was one inning. Hernandez was nearly untouchable.
Hernandez’s line: G 2/GS 1, 1-0, 7 IP, 4 H, 13 K
Others considered:
- Brian Ereu, USAO Drovers: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG 7 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, BB, 5 K
- Alexis Hurens, SCU Eagles: G 1/GS 1, 4.1 IP, 2 H, BB, 7 K
- Christopher Spry, Rogers State: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, 7 IP, 3 H, BB, 6 K
- Keegan Jendseseck, Randall Saints: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, 7.2 IP, 4 H, 0 R, 4 K
JUCO
Player of the Week
Rhen Rutledge (OF), NOC Enid Jets

NOC Enid is one of the hottest teams in the state currently as they have won 9 games in a row. It seems like multiple players are providing the offensive fire power each game. The one player that kept coming up in each game this past week was Rhen Rutledge.
The Sand Springs alum and lead off man for the Jets didn’t just set the table for his team. He provided slug for the Jets as well.
Rutledge’s line: G 4, .692/.777/1.154, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 3 BB, 2 HBP, 9 R
Others considered:
- Kip Christian, CASC Vikings: G 4, .700/.769/1.100, 5 RBI, 4 2B, 3 BB, 6 R, 3 SB
- Mitchell Ashley, Redlands CC: G 4, .571/.571/.786, 7 RBI, 3 2B, 3 R
Pitcher of the Week
Brett Trease (RHP), Redlands CC Cougars

Don’t look now, but the Redlands Cougars have matched their total win total from 2024 (14). A big reason for that is the depth of their pitching staff. The Cougars have several pitcher this season that can pitch a lot of innings and allow their offense to win games.
Brett Trease is a perfect example of what is going on in El Reno. This past week, Trease was asked to come out of the bullpen early at the start of the 3rd inning with his team behind 3-0 already. Trease provided 5 innings of 1 run ball that allowed the Cougars to win a game to keep their winning streak going.
Trease’s line: G 1, 5 IP, 3 H, ER, BB 5 K
Others considered:
- Blake Limburg, NOC Enid Jets: G 1, 3 IP, H, R, 5 K
- Blake Lindsey, Carl Albers State Vikings: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, 5 IP, 3 H, R, 3 BB, 8 K
