When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best college team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR College Power 10.
We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.
For example, are we saying that teams at the junior college level are better than say OSU or OU? No. But relative to their level, those JUCO teams could be having a better season than OSU or OU.
As a reminder, our first two Power 10 champs were ORU in 2023 after they made a run to the CWS and MACU in 2024 after their dominant SAC regular season and tournament championships on the way to their first ever NAIA National Tournament appearance as a #1 regional seed.
This is for fun, so please treat it as such.
Let’s take a look at the Week 5 rankings.

Oklahoma hold on to the top spot for the 2nd week as they went a perfect 5-0 last week. They swept Texas Southern in a 2 game set midweek and Cal State Northridge over the weekend. The Sooners have won 11 in a row to start the season.
OU is at #16 Dallas Baptist on Tuesday and host Sam Houston State this weekend.
NOC Tonkawa (18-1) won 5 games last week after losing their first game to D3 #2 Dallas Eastfield the prior Sunday. The Mavs have 4 games with Hesston this weekend.
Oklahoma Wesleyan (19-2) and MACU (16-5) stay in place at #3 and #4 respectively. However, the margin between these 2 is closer than the records may indicate. The Eagles went won their series over Southwestern College this weekend, but they were shut out in game 3 to a team that 2-8 prior to that game. For their part MACU has won 11 in a row since starting 5-5. They 11 game win streak is tied with OU for the current longest in the state.
OKWU is at York this weekend while MACU is at Friends on Tuesday and Wayland Baptist on the weekend.
Oklahoma State (6-4) makes their season debut in the Power 10 at #5. Their record may not look like they should be this high, but the Pokes have gone 5-1 since starting 1-3 and they beat then #1 Texas A&M and #16 Mississippi State this weekend after losing to #3 Tennessee. Of their 4 losses, 3 of them are to nationally ranked teams: #3 Tennessee, #13 Clemson, #15 Texas. The Pokes host Winthrop and Illinois State this week.
Carl Albert State (12-4) holds down the #6 spot once again. The Vikings have yet to lose a series this season beating Labette, 3-1, this past weekend.
Entering the Power 10 at #7 this week is NOC Enid (13-3). The Jets have won 9 games in a row. Enid plays a 4 game set vs Rose State this coming weekend. RSC has won 2 consecutive series against then nationally ranked teams (#10 Crowder, #19 Seminole State).
Staying at #8 is Rogers State (11-2). The Hillcats dropped a midweek game at NWOSU last week before sweeping rival Northeastern State in their MIAA opener. The Hillcats host the Rangers on Monday and Newman this weekend.
Moving up a spot to #9 is UCO. The Bronchos went 2-0 this week clinching their series with Emporia State (game 3 is today). UCO hosts Pittsburg State this weekend in their first MIAA series at home.
Dropping to #10 is Murray State College (12-7). The Aggies dropped all 3 games at D1 #8 LSU Eunice this past week. Before that MSC had won 9 in a row. The Aggies host Vernon College on Friday in a double header.
Others considered (in alphabetical order): Oklahoma Baptist, Redlands CC, USAO, Western OK State College
