Welp, the final regular season OSSAA rankings have been released.
These are significant as the rankings will be used for seeding for Regional play that starts next week. (Remember that Classes A & B have Districts this week.)
- The top 8 teams in 2A will be Regional hosts and they will play a best of 3 series (1 vs 16, 2 vs 15, etc).
- The top 4 teams remaining in Class A & B will be Regional hosts. Each Regional will be a 4 team, double elimination bracket. The #1 seed will host the #8, #9, and #16 ranked teams remaining; the #2 seed – #7, #10, #15; the #3 seed – #6, #11, #14; the #4 seed – #5, #12, #13.
This week we will start with Class A, then B, then 2A.
But first here’s my Top Ten for each class.

Class A

- I had Rattan at #1 over Wright City based on their win Saturday over the Jax, but if everything plays out like we think it will, they wouldn’t face each other until the State Championship game.
- I do not understand what Canute has to do. They have not lost in the month of September and have one of the best wins in the state over FCB. Them at #6 and currently not in line to host a regional is not good. Ironically if everything goes chalk, they’d got to Okarche for the Regional which is who I’d have going to Canute in my rankings.
- The way Ripley has played the last few weeks, warrants them the #4 spot over Wister who I have at #5. Having Ripley a spot behind AmPo is like that win Ripley has over the Panthers just 10 days ago never happened.
- Last, only 25 of the 32 coaches in Class A voted if you look at the number of 1st place votes. That’s unfair to the players. That needs to be addressed.
Class B

- I have FCB #1, but I do not mind that Calumet is #1. The margin is razor thin and Calumet did beat FCB earlier this season. Just like Class A, if everything goes chalk, they will be on the opposite sides of the bracket and would only meet in the State Championship game.
- Good to see Boswell get that #4 spot which is what I’ve been saying the last couple of weeks.
- Numbers 5-10 is really picking hairs because some of the teams with the not as good records as the others played a tougher schedule. The question is how do you value a loss to a top team vs building up wins against teams that aren’t near as good?
- According to the 1st place votes, 33 coaches voted which is more than Class A, but still not close to how many teams there are in Class B. Again, have to do better – the players deserve it.
Class 2A

- Awesome job in that ALL 16 coaches voted.
- I did have Latta at #7 over Preston who I had a #8
