The Big 12 released its preseason poll as voted on by the conference’s coaches. It looks like the coaches are underrating the state’s two schools – especially the Sooners. OSU comes in at #3 while the Sooners are tied with West Virginia at #6.
Looks like the coaches still have the postseason run by TCU in their mind even though they finished the regular season in the middle of the pack in 2023.
They probably also ranked Texas #2 because they’re “Texas” right?
Oklahoma State finished in a 3-way tie for 1st in last year’s regular season with Texas and West Virginia. The Cowboys did lose Roc Riggio from the lineup, but they do return 2024 All Big 12 Preseason honorees Nolan Schubart and Carson Benge.
Oklahoma did finish 7th in 2023 and only had one (Bryce Madron) player named to the preseason conference team so it was kind of expected the Sooners wouldn’t be in the top 4. They are ranked higher than they finished last year, so there’s that.
However, when you look at some of the individual projections for the players on this year’s roster, maybe they should’ve been ranked higher?
Regardless of where they are ranked, the games are decided on the diamond and not on paper. Just look for both the Pokes and Sooners to contend for the conference title in 2024.
