When Stillwater alum, Jackson Holliday, was drafted #1 overall to the Baltimore Orioles in the 2022 MLB Draft, everyone in Oklahoma (and elsewhere) that saw him play understood what the Orioles saw in Holliday.
What we didn’t know is how quickly Holliday would adapt to professional baseball and dominate in his 1st full season. So much so that he was named the MiLB Hitting Prospect of the Year.
Holliday started the season in Low A in Delmarva where he slashed .396/.522/.660 for an whopping OPS of 1.182. He had 2 HRs and 16 RBIs. After just 15 games it was apparent that he needed to move up.
It was from there he spent the most time in High A. In 57 games, Holliday slashed .314/.452/.488 for a .940 OPS. He hit 5 HRs and had 50 RBIs.
Holliday next moved to AA Bowie where he played 36 games. He stayed hot for the Baysox slashing .338/.421/.507. He had 3 HRs and 15 RBIs.
Next it was on to AAA Norfolk. He slowed down there a little (not unexpected) to slash .267/.396/.400, but still had a respectable OPS of .796. However, towards the end of the season, Holliday did show signs of improvement.
Overall Holliday slashed .342/.442/.499 for an OPS of .941. He hit 12 HRs and knocked in 75 RBIs in 125 total games played. What really stands out is Holliday drew 101 walks!
If there is one criticism however, it is that Holliday needs to cut down on the strikeouts. He had 118 total Ks in those 125 games played.
You can see the stats breakdown below.

To get a proper picture of the year Holliday had, here is a comparison to the #2 overall pick in the 2022 MLB Draft, Druw Jones.
Holliday is projected to join the Orioles sometime in the 2024 season according to mlb.com.
