The High School National Championship will have it’s 7th iteration starting on Wednesday and for the 3rd time, a team from Oklahoma will be there competing for a national championship.

Started in 2019 (there was not an event in 2021), the High School National Championship has been played in Omaha, NE bringing together some of the best underclassmen across the country representing their respective states competing against one another.

What started with 8 teams in that first year grew to 12 by 2024 (when Oklahoma started playing) with a total of 16 teams this year.

This year teams from Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado, Florida, Georgia, Hawaii, Kansas, Louisiana, Maryland, Massachusetts, Missouri, Nebraska, North Carolina, Oregon, Texas, and Utah join Oklahoma in the field.

Oklahoma is led by Sam Hayden who is currently on staff at Edmond Santa Fe. He has been at the helm for Oklahoma all 3 years and led Team OK to a runner up finish in their first year in Omaha in 2024.

Each team will play 3 “bracket games” Wednesday through Friday. Based on those results, the top 8 teams will move into an actual bracket for the quarterfinal round on Saturday while the bottom 8 squads will play a consolation game on Saturday. The winners of the quarterfinal games will play the semis on Sunday with the championship game on Sunday night.

The “bracket games,” consolation games, and quarterfinals will be played at Omaha University, Creighton Prep School, and Westside High School in Omaha. The semis and championship games on Sunday will be played at Charles Schwab Field.

The quarterfinals on Saturday will be on ESPN+ while the semis and championship game will be on ESPNU.
