The Dibble Festival was loaded with 2A-1 talent this year as a handful of the top teams faced off against each other. Here are some teams and players that shined and need more attention…

Dale Pirates – #1 2A-1

Dale is a super athletic squad that does things right. They are the deepest team in the class on all levels of the game. They are one of the best defensive teams I’ve seen this year regardless of class. Three super impressive wins this week as they are #1 for a reason.

Dale v Cashion

After beating 2A-2 #1 Preston and A-1 #2 Dewar, the Pirates had the tough task of facing off against yet another top team in 2A-1 #2 Cashion. The Pirates didn’t show their best stuff as both sides made plenty of mistakes, but after Cashion had 3 runs on the board after 5, Dale battled and strung together 3 runs in the 6th to tie up the game. After 5.1 strong innings from Briar Turman, Cruz Garrett stepped in and looked unhittable. Dale would then scratch 2 runs in the top of the 10th to ultimately win the ball game.

Dale v Vian / Dale v CHA

Dale had no trouble on Friday beating the lips off of Vian with 5 bombs. Then, the Pirates go on to play #7 CHA. After a rough 5 innings of play, the Pirates blew the game open scoring 5 in the 6th to win 7-2.

Players to Watch

Cruz Garrett (2028) – Preseason watchlist kid. Straight dominance from the sophomore on the bump against a really good Cashion team. Super athletic kid with plus stuff. Looked effortlessly on the mound and defensively. Very very impressed.

Elvis Edwards (2026) – Another super athletic kid with great bat to ball skill. Had very competitive at bats all festival.

AJ Carpenter (2026) – Big kid with a big presence at the plate. Had multiple huge at bats for Dale all festival.

Cashion Wildcats – #2 2A-1

Cashion is another athletic squad up and down the lineup. They also have a 1-2 punch that can beat anybody on any given day. The Cats are getting hot at the right time as they hit pitching hard all festival.

Cashion v Dale

After losing to far inferior teams, the Wildcats seemed to play their best baseball against the best of the best. They proved that by beating Class B #1 at the time, Calumet, and Class A-1 #1 Okarche. Cashion came into this game with a lot of confidence, and this showed by how they came swinging the bat. They had 8 hits off of Dale’s best and hit the ball HARD. Kyle Yowell threw well for Cashion giving up zero hits until the sixth when Dale scored 3 to tie it up. The problem was that the Cats got themselves out on the bases in a lot of scoring opportunities which held them at 3 runs all game. Neither Dale or Cashion had their “A” Game, but they both completed very well.

Cashion v Calera

After the 10 inning game against Dale, the Cats had to get right back on the field to face off against #5 Calera. After throwing an inning and a third against Dale, Cashion’s ace, Brody Nichols had to get right back on the mound against the Bulldogs. Nichols got weak contact all game going scoreless until the 6th on a Hofflin Weil base hit. Kellen Smith had all 3 RBI’s for Cashion going 2-2 with 2 home runs. Another game where the Cats didn’t have their best stuff, they found a way to get the W.

Players to Watch

Brody Nichols (2026) – Another Preseason Watchlist kid. The senior got a lot of weak contact throughout the day, though the weak contact wasn’t the friendliest to him at times though as he gave up multiple weak knocks that cost him a run or two. Hit spots and competed very well.

Kyle Yowell (2026) – Played great at all aspects of the game this festival. Threw very well against Dale only giving up 4 hits in 8 innings. Very mature approach on the mound letting the Pirates get themselves out. Also swung it well with big at bats in both games.

Kellen Smith (2027) – Kellen played well as it seemed as no one even wanted to try and run on him in either game. He also had all 3 RBI’s against Calera with 2 bombs. Very athletic and confident kid.

Calera Bulldogs

Calera is a super scrappy team that refuses to strikeout or give anything free to the other team. They are also pretty athletic and solid defensively.

Calera v Cashion

Logan Bumgarner got the start for the Bulldogs and he competed like he always does. The senior mixed things up very well and gave up all of his runs on just 2 swings. He also scored on a Hofflin Weil base hit to tie it in the 6th. After being down 3-1 going into the bottom of the 7th, Calera had two quick outs; before pretty much 3 infield hits loaded the bases. Unfortunately, they would fall short 3-2.

Calera v Wilburton / Calera v Dibble

Not much to say about Calera/Wilburton as Calera mashed the ball en route to a 14-3 victory in just 4 innings. Calera/Dibble was a ‘blast’ to watch as Calera was up 12-7 going into the 7th inning. The Bulldogs scored 18 runs in the top half. Yes, 18 runs! The Bulldogs won this one 30-7.

Players to Watch

Logan Bumgarner (2026) – Logan is a very competitive player and he showed it in this festival. He mashed at the plate going 5-12 with 4 RBI’s. He also threw very well against a very good Cashion team.

Hofflin Weil (2027) – Hofflin swung the stick well going 6-8 with 2 bombs. Came through in big times all festival.
