One of the things we like to do at SSBR is highlight 5 games during the week that we think should have a special “focus” on them. They could be matchups of top teams in the same class, rivalries, or even teams that may not get the coverage other programs do.
One caveat for a game to be selected for a game of the week: it cannot be part of a tournament or a festival.
Without further ado, here are the SSBR Games of the Week for Week 2.

Moss Pirates (5-3) vs Coleman Wildcats (7-1); Monday (4:30 p.m.)
This is a matchup of 2 teams looking to make some noise in Class B and get into a position to host a Regional at the end of the season.
Moss comes into this week with a 5-3 record, but don’t let that fool you. Their 3 losses have come to 2, 2A squads in Oktaha and Latta and the other was to Class A contender, Navajo. Moss also won the consolation championship at the tough Tupelo Invitational winning their last 2 games to go 2-1 in the tournament.
Coleman comes into the week with a 7-1 record and winning their own Todd Sampson Memorial Tournament. A one run loss to Stonewall (a team that Moss has beat twice) is the lone blemish on their record so far this season.
#4 Tupelo Tigers (6-1) vs #3 Rattan Rams (9-2); Tuesday (4:30 p.m.)
It’s kind of an unwritten rule that when we get a matchup of 2 SSBR ranked teams, it is an automatic SSBR GOTW.
This is a great matchup of 2 teams that appear to be state championship contenders in their respective classes. Not only that, these 2 teams share the same opponent in their respective losses: Silo.
Rattan started last week with a one run loss on the road at Silo before rolling off 4 straight including winning the Oktaha Tournament with wins over Tushka and Preston.
Tupelo had won their first 6 games before losing in the finals of the Tupelo Invitational to Silo, 2-1. In the seminfinal game of the tournament, Tupelo won a gritty one run game vs Navajo in extra innings.
Navajo Indians (5-3) vs #9 Canute Trojans (6-1); Tuesday (4:30 p.m.)
Both of these teams have been in the upper echelon of Class A for the last few seasons and it doesn’t appear to be any different this season.
Navajo comes into the week losing back to back games in the Tupelo Invitaitonal – a heartbreaker to Tupelo in the semis and to Latta in the 3rd place game. A win against a solid Canute squad would right the ship for Navajo.
Canute comes into the week winners of 3 straight after losing to Byng on the opening weekend. In those 3 games, the Trojans won by a combined score of 33-0.
Latta Panthers (4-3) vs #6 Tushka Tigers (7-2), Tuesday (4:30 p.m.)
This is another intraclass matchup of 2 squads looking to get their footing in Class 2A.
Winners of the Class 2A-1 state championship in the Spring, Latta comes into the week winners of 3 of their last 4. The Panther have wins over Asher, Moss, Byng, and Navajo and they won 3rd place in the Tupelo Invitational this past week.
Tushka comes into this week after going 2-2 last week winning 3rd place in the Oktaha Tournament. After a .500 week last week, a win on the road at Latta could show that Tushka is one of the teams in 2A that could give Silo a run.
#7 Dale Pirates (4-2) vs #3 Rattan Rams (9-2), Friday (4:30 p.m.)
If it wasn’t for 1 team, Dale would be undefeated at this point. Both of their losses have come at the hands of Ft Cobb-Broxton in which the Pirates led late in both games. Last week Dale picked up a good win on the road at Oktaha on Tuesday along with beating Arapaho-Butler on Friday in the FCB/Dale/A-B threeway series.
