When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best high school team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR Dominant Dozen.

We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.

For example, are we saying that teams at the lower classes are better than say the top 6A teams? Maybe, maybe not. Most of the top upper class teams have more depth than the lower class teams and they would most likely win a series with them. But relative to their level, those lower class teams may be having a better season than the upper class teams.

It is not an exact science, but when we do the rankings we look at a number of factors. Win/loss record. How is that team doing against their own class? How did they do versus teams in classifications higher than theirs? District play for 3A-6A teams. Head to head.

Using those factors we rank the teams based on how they are doing relative to their level. We have a panel in 2026 and the rankings points are then compiled to form the rankings.

As a reminder, our first two Dominant Dozen champs were Tuttle (4A) in 2023, Oktaha (2A) in 2024, and our first Sweet Sixteen champ was Blanchard (4A) in 2025.

*The Rankings last year year expanded to 16, thus the “Sweet Sixteen.”

This is for fun, so please treat it as such.

Let’s take a look at the rankings for Week 7.

1. Elgin Owls (4A), 27-2; Prev: 4

Elgin makes it the 4th #1 in as many weeks after going 5-0 last week. The Owls beat Class B contender Ft Cobb-Broxton on the road to begin the week before going 4-0 at the F&M Bank Classic against 4 6A teams.

Elgin has won 7 games in a row.

This week: Mon: vs Lone Grove; Tues: at Lone Grove; Fri: at Okarche

2. Tuttle Tigers (4A), 24-4; Prev: 8

After all but one of the teams ahead of them last week lost, Tuttle moves up to the 2 spot after going 3-0. Tuttle has been one of the most consistent teams so far this season and own an 18-1 record against fellow Class 4A competition.

This week: Mon: vs #3 Sulphur; Tues: at #3 Sulphur; Fri: vs Tushka; Sat: at Elk City

3. Sulphur Bulldogs (4A), 25-2; Prev: NR

Talk about a course correction. Full disclosure: we slept on Sulphur this season. They have a good crop of seniors and first year coach, Denton MIller, has him a squad that looks to compete at the state championship level.

Sulphur proved that this week beating last week’s #1 Marlow and #3 Mount St Mary in back to back games. The Bulldogs also have a win over fellow 4A contender Lone Grove. They are currently riding a 10 game winning streak.

This week: Mon: at #2 Tuttle; Tues: vs #2 Tuttle; Thurs: at #13 Washington; Fri: vs Ada

4. Marlow Outlaws (3A), 23-3; Prev: 1

For the 4th straight week, the #1 team lost a game and drops out of the top spot. Marlow doesn’t fall too far though as their loss was to Sulphur in a game they held the lead for several innings.

The Outlaws are still the class in 3A up to this point.

This week: Mon: at Davis; Tues: vs Davis; Thurs: vs Duncan; Fri: at #15 Stillwater; Sat: vs Southmoore

5. Mustang Broncos (6A), 27-4; Prev: 12

It is safe to say that no one is playing better in Class 6A than Mustang is at the moment. The Broncos are on a 10 game heater that includes 2, 1 run W’s vs Yukon in District play last week that puts them in the driver’s seat for the District championship.

This week: Mon: at Edmond Memorial; Tues: vs Edmond Memorial; Thurs: vs Union

6. Mount St Mary (4A), 21-6; Prev: 3

The Rockets took a couple on the chin last week going 2-2. MSM started the week with with a good win on the road at OCS then followed it up with a W at Christian Heritage. They lost bafck to back games to Sulphur and Davis to end the week.

The Rockets are undefeated in District and have already locked up the District title and have an 11-1 record vs fellow 4A competition.

This week: Mon: vs Western Heights; Tues: at Western Heights; Fri: vs Washington; Sat: at Chandler

7. Newcastle Racers (5A), 22-3; Prev: 2

The Racers drop to the 7th spot this week after going 2-1 last week. Newcastle dropped a game to home school team, OKC Broncos, at the 89er Days Festival.

Newcastle has lost to only one OSSAA squad (Elgin) in their 3 losses and are 13-0 against 5A teams.

This week: Mon: vs Duncan; Tues: at Duncan; Thurs: vs North Rock Creek; Fri: at North Rock Creek

8. Sallisaw Black Diamonds (4A), 23-1; Prev: 5
