When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best high school team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR Dominant Dozen.

We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.

For example, are we saying that teams at the lower classes are better than say the top 6A teams? Maybe, maybe not. Most of the top upper class teams have more depth than the lower class teams and they would most likely win a series with them. But relative to their level, those lower class teams may be having a better season than the upper class teams.

It is not an exact science, but when we do the rankings we look at a number of factors. Win/loss record. How is that team doing against their own class? How did they do versus teams in classifications higher than theirs? District play for 3A-6A teams. Head to head.

Using those factors we rank the teams based on how they are doing relative to their level. We have a panel in 2026 and the rankings points are then compiled to form the rankings.

As a reminder, our first two Dominant Dozen champs were Tuttle (4A) in 2023, Oktaha (2A) in 2024, and our first Sweet Sixteen champ was Blanchard (4A) in 2025.

*The Rankings last year year expanded to 16, thus the “Sweet Sixteen.”

This is for fun, so please treat it as such.

Let’s take a look at the rankings for the first poll.

Teams have to have played a game to be eligible.

1. Tuttle Tigers (4A), 4-0

Tuttle opened the season going 4-0 on the week and had the most impressive win of the week beating one of the 6A favorites, Edmond Memorial, on the road. What made that win even more impressive is the Tigers used 3 pitchers to allow only 2 Bulldog hits combined.

That came a day after Hunter Watson and Jackson Johnson combined for a 2 hit shutout over defending 3A state champ and rival, Washington.

This week: Mon: vs Star Spencer (DH); Thur: at Chickasha; Fri: vs #4 Mount St Mary; Sat: vs Elk City

2 (tie). Edmond Memorial Bulldogs (6A), 3-1

Edmond Memorial is widely regarded to be the team to beat in 6A this season. The Bulldogs have several D1 signees/commitments on their roster along with several more signed/committed to JUCOs.

While the Bulldogs did lose to Tuttle on Friday, they did beat the 3 6A teams they played – Piedmont (2025 State semifinalist), Sand Springs (perennial top 6A team), and Moore (considered state tournament contender in 2026).

This week: Mon: vs PC West; Tues: at PC West

2 (tie). Bishop Kelley Comets (5A), 3-0

Bishop Kelley came into 2026 with high aspirations. The Comets look to be a title contender and showed why in the first week. After beating 6A Muskogee 7-1 on Monday, the Comets went to 2025 6A State Runner Up, Owasso and beat them, 7-6. While their game vs Har-Ber (AR) got rained out on Thursday, the Comets walloped Cascia Hall 14-1 on Friday.

This week: Mon: at Tulsa Memorial; Tues: vs Tulsa Memorial, Thur: vs Sapulpa; Fri: vs Carl Albert

4. Mount St Mary Rockets (4A), 3-0

After making the state semifinals in 2024 with a young team, the 2025 season was a bit of a disappointment. Injuries hampered the Rockets as they did not make it out of the Regional round in the 3A postseason.

Despite moving back up to 4A in 2026, MSM is one of the top teams in the class with everyone healthy coming into the season. They showed that in the first week as they beat 6A Deer Creek solidly (10-0) behind returning from injury ace, Parker Hayes. They finished the week dominating 5A McAlester and Denison(TX) on Thursday. For the week, the Rockets outscored their opponents 34-1.

This week: Mon: at #6 Heritage Hall; Tues: vs #6 Heritage Hall; Thurs: at Westmoore; Fri: at #1 Tuttle

5. Jenks Trojans (6A), 3-0

It’s been a lean last couple of seasons for the Trojans, but if this first week is any indication, Jenks looks to be back in 2026.

The Trojans won 2 convincing games on the road to start the season with the first one at Enid (7-0) on Monday and the next at Bixby (6-1) on Tuesday.

Jenks finished the week beating Arkansas’ Bentonville, 14-2, on Thursday.

This week: Mon: vs Sapulpa; Tues: at Sapulpa; Thurs: vs Berryhill

6. Heritage Hall (4A), 2-0

It’s a new era for Heritage Hall as long time MLBer Mickey Tettleton takes over the program.

The Chargers only played 2 games last week, but they were impressive offensively as they put up 22 runs combined on Chickasha and Piedmont. Isaac Beeson looked like his coach did when he played as he hit 2 bombs on the week.

This week: Mon: vs #4 Mount St Mary; Tues: at #4 Mount St Mary; Fri: vs Deer Creek

7. Elgin Owls (4A), 3-0

Elgin has been to the state tournament in Class 5A the last 3 seasons including the state championship game in 2025. The Owls are moving down a class this season and with the wealth of experience returning in 2026, look to be one of the favorites in 2026.

This week the Owls opened winning a double header vs Madill, 21-0 and 19-0 before beating Lawton Mac on Friday.

This week: Mon: vs Ardmore; Tues: at Ardmore; Fri: vs Duncan

8. (tie). Yukon Miller (6A), 4-0

Yukon is always one of the better teams in the largest class and Ryan Phillips has another solid team in 2026.

The Millers started the season going 4-0 in the first week and literally shut down the opposing offenses. In their 4 games (Norman 3-1, 6-0; Bethany 8-0; Southmoore 6-0), the Millers allowed only 1 run (a solo HR in the first game) and 12 hits total. Currently, Yukon is on a 22 innings streak of not allowing a run.

This week: Mon: at Lawton Ike; Tues: vs Lawton Ike; Thur: vs Deer Creek; Fri: vs Norman North

8 (tie). Newcastle Racers (5A), 3-1

Newcastle moved up to 5A this season, but that hasn’t tampered expectations for the Racers. After a state semifinal appearance in 2025, the state tournament and more is the goal in 2026.

After beating Classes SAS a combined 46-1 in their opening District series, the Racers beat Owasso at the Owasso Festival. They got rained out vs Sand Springs before losing to one of the best teams in Kansas, Life Prep, 5-4 on Saturday.

This week: Mon: vs Del City; Tues: at Del City; Thurs: at Elk City; Fri: at Noble
