The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Elgin Owls

Head coaching experience: 18 years (16 at Elgin)

  • Ritson Meyer Senior (Uncommitted): Ritson is coming off of a monster junior season. Ritson hit .490, 48 hits, 13 Doubles, 6 HR, 49 RBI. On the mound he was 5-1 with 58K, 1.81 ERA in 42 innings of work. Ritson is a 4 year starter and has been a key contributor for us since he stepped in the high School.
  • Kade Hilliary Senior (Redlands CC): Kade is an exciting player for us that burst onto the scene last year in a big way. Kade is another two way guy and will be one of our top arms on the mound. The big lefty worked 40 innings last spring. Kade had 50K and had a 1.24 Era. Kade appeared in relief in all three games of the 2025 state tournament. Last spring Kade hit .350 with 10 doubles, 4 triples, 1 homer, 22 RBI
  • Mason Thornton Senior (Redlands CC): Mason Lead our team Runs scored (56) and stolen bases (28) Last spring. Mason had 38 Hits, 6 doubles, 5 triples, 1 HR, 20 RBI, and 34 walks. He is a weapon at the top of the line up and will be our everyday short stop. He is a top notch defender and the leader of the defense.
  • Brody Morrison Senior (Uncommitted): Brody is another speed guy at the top of the line up that is a run scorer. Brody had 37 hits, 8 doubles, 1 triple, 4 Home runs 27 RBI 35 Runs. Brody will play second base and between him and Thornton, we will be as athletic as anyone up the middle.
  • Jaxon Southerland Junior (Uncommitted): Jaxon Lead the owls pitching staff in 2025 with 62 Innings. He went 7-1 on the year recording 71 Strikeouts and had a 1.91 Era. opponents hit .182 against him on the season. We are excited to see what he can do this season on the mound. He has put in a lot of work in the off season and is looking really good.
  • Kason Meyer Junior (Uncommitted): Kason is another key contributor returning from our state runner up in 2025. Kason was a true utility for us a season ago and handled part of the catching duties as well playing a solid outfield. Last season Kason finished with 41runs scored to go along with 24 RBI. Kason finished with 4 doubles, 3 triples, 2 HR. Kason did most of that damage out of the 9 hole and did a great job of turning the line up over for the meat of our line up.

Top Newcomers

  • Graeson Nichols-Junior: Graeson has had a great off season and has put in a lot of work. We are look forward to seeing what kind of spring he can have for us. Graeson adds another tough out to our line up. He is a guy that can do damage with one swing of the bat. Graeson came off the bench for us last season in several big time spots and did a great job. We are excited to see his role with this team grow.
  • Cayden Belletto– Junior: Cayden was another true utility guy last season and can literally play anywhere on the field. He is a big time athlete with multiple ways to impact the game. This spring Cayden’s role will expand for the Owls and it will give us another really athletic player in the line up.

Overall Team Strengths

The Owls are a very experienced team, this is the oldest team we have had in several years. We are very athletic up and down the line up and will put pressure on the other team in a variety of ways. Our biggest strength will be our pitching staff, we have several guys that can go be number 1’s on about any team.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

Defense: that is the number one focus this spring. We need to be better defensively to try and make another run at a State Championship.

Outlook

We are all in for 2026 on winning another championship here in Elgin. This group has played in the state tournament the last 3 years and won a bunch of games. The team is hungry and will do whatever it takes to win games.
