The 2025 OSSAA Fall season officially got underway last week and we have a full week of games behind us. That means it is time to announce our SSBR Players/Pitchers of the Week for week 1.

Each week, SSBR sends out a nomination form to the head coaches for each program. They submit one player and one pitcher from their team along with statistics and any context they might want to provide that will be used for consideration.

On Monday’s SSBR will announce the winner for each classification. Along with announcing each winner, we will share the names of all the nominations received.

Let’s take a look at the winners for week 1.

Class 2A

Player of the Week

Zane Sander, Silo Rebels

It’ll be hard to find a better lead off hitter this Fall than Zane Sander of Silo. He is a catalyst for the Rebels in putting pressure on defenses. This first week of the season Sander was up to his usual self reaching base in 10 of his 11 plate appearances.

Zander’s line (3 games): .857/.909/1.286, 2 RBI, 3 2B, 4 BB, 6 R, 2 SB

Other nominees:

  • Deakon Smith, Latta Panthers
  • Braylon Hastings, Tushka Tigers

Pitcher of the Week

Aiden McCarty, Silo Rebels

The Rebels double up on the awards this week as Aiden McCarty takes home the Pitcher of the Week. McCarty had 2 starts on the week going only 2 innings in his first start to get his feet wet.

His 2nd start which came against Wright City on Friday was a “complete domination” according to Rebels play by play man, Kevin Farr. In that game, McCarty threw a complete game shutout allowing only 4 hit while striking out 5 (no walks).

McCarty’s line: G 2, GS 2, 2-0, 9 IP, 0.77 ERA, 6 H, ER, 0 BB, 7 K

Other nominees:

  • Greg Forshay, Latta Panthers
  • Crew Davidson, OCA Eagles
  • DJ Aleberda, Tushka Tigers

Class A

Player of the Week

Landon Gutierrez, Stonewall Longhorns

The Longhorns have stumbled out of the gate going 1-4 against a tough schedule. Their losses are to Ft Cobb-Broxton, Roff, Tushka, and Tupelo. That didn’t seem to matter for Landon Gutierrez as he was outstanding against those opponents giving Stonewall something to build on going forward this season.

Gutierrez’ line (5 games): .600/.733/1.300, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2B, 2BB, 3 HBP, 5 R, 3 SB

Other nominees:

  • Rylan Moore, Arapaho-Butler Indians
  • Ethan Kirby, Okarche Warriors

Pitcher of the Week

Easton Roby, Okarche Warriors

No team in the state had a better opening week than the Okarche Warriors. They opened with a win vs Canute and had wins over Ft Cobb-Broxton and Dale on their way to the Dale Invitational title.

Roby set the tone for the Warriors with his performance over Class A title contender, Canute, to open the season. Roby threw 6 scoreless innings allowing only 1 hit and striking out 10 (no walks) leading the Warriors to a 2-0 win. Roby also got the last 2 outs of the Warriors win over Dale.

Roby’s line: G 2/GS 1, 1-0, 0.00 ERA, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 11 K

Other nominees:

  • Jiles Southall, Arapaho-Butler Indians
  • Jake Beutler, Canute Trojans

Class B

Player of the Week

Brayden Knight, Mill Creek Bullfrogs

There is a high level of excitement around the Bullfrog program as they return 7 everyday players and are adding some talented freshmen. That excitement is only bigger now after a 5-0 start and a tournament championship to Mill Creek’s credit after the first week of the season.

Brayden Knight was a huge part of the Bullfrogs success this past week. Knight was an on base and run producing machine and he even hit for the cycle in the semifinal win at the Wapanucka Tournament.

Knight’s line (5 games): .733/.778/1.333, HR, 10 RBI, 4 2B, 3B, 2 BB, HBP, 11 R, 9 SB

Other nominees:

  • Konnor Thiessen, Calumet Chieftains
  • Holden Hamilton, Coleman Wildcats
  • Bryce Cockayne, Dover Longhorns
  • Easton Smith, Moss Pirates
  • Zack Luker, Stuart Hornets

Pitcher of the Week

Nolan Stewart, Stuart Hornets

Stuart had one of the toughest schedules the first week of the season of any team out there. Starting their season on 8/7, the Hornets have played 6 games losing 4 of them to Calera, Tupelo, Dale, and Silo. The Hornets did win games vs Asher and Wright City, however.

It was those 2 wins that Nolan Stewart had a hand in for the Hornets on the mound. In the Asher game, he started and through 5 innings of the run rule not allowing an earned run. In the Wright City game, Stewart came in relief in the middle of the 5th inning with the game still in doubt. He shut the Jax down and allowed the Hornets to go on to win by run rule earning a save.

Stewart’s line: G 2/GS 1, 1-0, SV, 6.1 IP, 0.00 ERA, 6 H, 2 R, 0 ER, 2 BB, 8 K

Other nominees:

  • Kingston Arnold, Calumet Chieftains
  • Silas Walters, Coleman Wildcats
  • Casen Buck, Dover Longhorns
  • Braxton Brown, Lookeba-Sickles Panthers
  • Landon Golden, Moss Pirates
