Over the last couple of years, SSBR has put a focus on teams traveling out of state on Spring Break. However, we’ve seen a few events in the Sooner State start to keep those teams in state over the week that are becoming big time events where several top teams from across the classes are playing.

The third and final event we will focus on this week starts Thursday. The Edmond Spring Break Festival has grown so much the last few year that it is now played at 9 different locations throughout the OKC metro. All 3 Edmond schools, Deer Creek, Mustang, Piedmont, OCS, Choctaw, and Norman High will all see games at their ballparks.

Teams from all over the state of Oklahoma will be joined by teams from Nebraska, Kansas, and Missouri to play in the festival.

Let’s take a look at some of the marquee matchups.

Edmond Memorial vs Ft Cobb Broxton, Thursday 4:00 p.m. (Memorial HS)

Ft Cobb-Broxton is once again showing they are not afraid to play anyone, anywhere. The SSBR #16 team will be playing their 3rd top level, upper classification team since they began their season last week. They played at Washington to open their season on Monday, March 10 and hosted Mount St Mary this past Monday. Unfortunately for the Mustangs, they lost both games.

It’ll be another tough task for the Mustangs as the the Bulldogs are one of, if not the best teams in the state of Oklahoma. We’ve got the Bulldogs ranked #2 in the SSBR Sweet 16 and EMHS is ranked nationally by PBR at #10 and Perfect Game at #32,

Mustang vs Okarche, Thursday 4:00 p.m. (Mustang HS)

Mustang is consistently one of the top teams in class 6A. The Broncos have been a fixture in the state tournament over the last several years. Two of their three losses on the year are a pair of 3-run losses to Memorial in District play.

Okarche comes in 2025 as one of the favorites in Class A-1. The Warriors have made the state tournament in both the Spring and Fall the last 2 years. Okarche has depth for a Class A team led by Easton Roby and Brett Carnott.

Deer Creek vs Jones, Friday 11:00 a.m. (Deer Creek HS)

Much like Mustang, Deer Creek is a fixture deep into the post season in Class 6A. The Antlers are 3-2 this season with their losses to Mustang and a split with state championship contender, Edmond Santa Fe.

Jones comes into the week at 7-0 including 3 wins over teams in higher classifications. The Longhorns are no stranger to playing top level teams as this will be a good test to see if they are a player in Class 3A.

Verdigris vs Canute, Friday 11:00 a.m. (Norman HS)

This is a matchup of 2 schools who are consistently at the top of their classifications.

Verdigris comes in at 7-2 in 4A with their only 2 losses to state champ contender, Salina.

Bobby Blackburn is in his 2nd full year leading Canute. He got the Trojans back to the state tournament in the Spring of 2024 and in the Fall of 2024 they were one of the top teams in Class A until they were upset in the regionals. The Trojans are undefeated so far this season at 5-0.

Choctaw vs Oktaha, Saturday 1:30 p.m (Choctaw HS)

Choctaw is poised once again to make a run to the state tournament in Class 6A. The Yellowjackets were state qualifiers in 2024 and are off to a 5-2 start this year with their losses to Memorial and Brock (TX).

Oktaha was crowned the SSBR Dominant Dozen champs in 2024 after dominating their class (2A). The Tigers are in the newly formed 2A-1 this season and are currently ranked at #2 behind Dale in the OSSAA rankings.
