On the eve of the Big 12 Championship, the conference released their 2024 season awards on Monday and the Sooner State is well represented.

The Coach of the Year, Pitcher of the Year, and Newcomer of the Year are all from the Sooner State along with 12 players from the Sooners and Cowboys and one former OK Preps star are on the All-Big 12 First and Second teams.

The players from the Sooner State that were preseason picks can be see here.

Let’s take a look at the major award winners and the players on the All-Big 12 First Team.

Skip Johnson, University of Oklahoma – Coach of the Year

The expectations around the Sooner program were high coming into the season. However, those expectations weren’t reciprocated anywhere else. In fact, people thought so little of the Sooners coming into 2024 they were picked to finish 6th in the league.

The Sooners swept 6 of their 10 conference series and won the regular season title by 2.5 games over 2nd place Oklahoma State.

It was a pretty easy choice.

Peyton Tolle, TCU (Bethany High School) – Pitcher of the Year/Newcomer of the Year/All-Big 12 1st Team (SP)

The junior from Bethany High School was dominant on the mound for the Frogs after transferring from Wichita State. in 13 games (all starts), Tolle pitched 76 innings and had a sub 3.00 ERA of 2.94 leading the conference. Tolle also led the conference in strikeouts with 116 (against only 34 walks). He was 3rd in Batting Average Against (BAA) at 1.91.

Michael Snyder, OU – All-Big 12 First Team

The transfer from the University of Washington was looked upon as possibly being a big piece of the Sooners’ offense this year and he didn’t disappoint. Snyder had a slash line of .354/.467/.651 with 10 HRs and 53 RBI (all 2nd on the team in those categories). His 22 doubles led the team.

Carson Benge, OSU (Yukon HS) – All-Big 12 First Team

The former Miller kept rising his star this year. If there was an award for 2-way players, Benge would’ve won it. He finished the year .327/.446/.668 with 15 HR, and 57 RBI. The average and home runs were 2nd on the team while the RBI and his 22 doubles led the Pokes.

Benge is on the 1st team as an outfielder, but we’d be remiss to not mention what he can do on the mound. In 16 appearances (2 starts), Benge’s ERA is 2.45 with 30 Ks and 8 BB in 25.2 IP. He has a sub 1 whip at 0.97.

Zach Ehrhard, OSU – All-Big 12 First Team

The junior from Florida bounced back from an injury plagued 2023 season in a big way. Ehrard slashed .325/.447/.581 with 11 HR and 45 RBI (all 3rd on the team). He was also 2nd in doubles at 19.

Easton Carmichael, OU – All-Big 12 First Team

After playing much of 2023 as a catcher, Carmichael slid into a mostly DH role in 2024 – and did it payoff. Carmichael slashed .363/.413/.563 with 6 HR and 59 RBI. His average and RBI led the team along with his 78 hits. His 17 doubles were 2nd for the Sooners.

Brayden Davis, OU – All-Big 12 First Team

The left hander from Texas was the workhorse for the Sooners. Sliding into the Friday’s starting pitcher slot, Davis led the Sooners with 76.2 IP and 98 strikeouts (against only 38 walks). He led the Sooners in WHIP at 1.27 and BAA .211.

Brian Holiday, OSU – All-Big 12 First Team

Much like Davis did for OU, Holiday became the workhorse for the Cowboys. Holiday led the team with 95 IP (led the Big 12), and ERA of 3.32, and 111 strikeouts (against only 18 walks). His BAA of .207 came against 348 AB which led the Big 12 by 36 ABs.
