The calendar has turned to the a new school year and that means the OSSAA high school Fall baseball season will be here soon. The season officially gets underway on August 10, but teams can play games before then if both teams have already started school.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 Fall season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Dale Pirates
Classification: 2A
2025 Fall Results: 25-4 (State quarterfinalist)
2026 Spring Results: 25-7 (2A-1 State semifinalist)
Head Coach: Cody Merrell
Head coaching experience: 8 years (2nd at Dale)
Top Returners
- Briar Turman – SR – Was a workhorse on the mound for us last year. Pitched in a-lot of big games vs tough opponents. Expect to see the same this year with more experince. Will also get a chance to swing it more and play 1B regularly.
- Chase Harris – SR – Very versatile in the filed and at the plate. Consistent contributor in any role he was asked to play. Will also be a go-to arm this fall.
- Braylon White (Butler JC) – SR – Very athletic player who has lots of experience. Can be a game changer in the field and at the plate.
- Carver Crowson – SR – Expecting him to step up and lead the OF. Is able to hit all through the lineup.
- Cruz Garrett – JR – Mature player who is a threat in the box, on defense or on the mound. Had a very good Soph year and strong summer on mound.
Top Newcomers
- Bryson Clifford – JR – Going to be used in many different situations and add depth to our order.
- Cy Dougan – SR – Has worked while he waited for his time. Is going to have the opportunity to eat some innings on the mound with a bigger role this year.
Team strengths
- Experience on the mound.
- The hunger to win a state championship.
Team needs to work on
- Making adjustments when the game requires it.
- Having GRIT and playing each game like it’s the last one.
Outlook
Love our team. It will take a team effort for the team to have success. Going to have some new guys in new roles. Excited to see them step into those roles and grow as the season progresses.
