When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best high school team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR Dominant Dozen.
We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.
For example, are we saying that teams at the lower classes are better than say the top 6A teams? Maybe, maybe not. Most of the top upper class teams have more depth than the lower class teams and they would most likely win a series with them. But relative to their level, those lower class teams may be having a better season than the upper class teams.
It is not an exact science, but when we do the rankings we look at a number of factors. Win/loss record. How is that team doing against their own class? How did they do versus teams in classifications higher than theirs? District play for 3A-6A teams. Head to head.
Using those factors we rank the teams based on how they are doing relative to their level. We have a panel in 2026 and the rankings points are then compiled to form the rankings.
As a reminder, our first two Dominant Dozen champs were Tuttle (4A) in 2023, Oktaha (2A) in 2024, and our first Sweet Sixteen champ was Blanchard (4A) in 2025.
*The Rankings last year year expanded to 16, thus the “Sweet Sixteen.”
This is for fun, so please treat it as such.
Let’s take a look at the rankings for Week 8.
*This will be the last Sweet Sixteen until after the state tournaments have been played.

1. Tuttle Tigers (4A), 28-4; Prev: 2
For the 5th straight week we have a new #1. This week it is Tuttle’s turn to slide into the top spot after a 4-0 week that saw them sweep upstart Sulphur in District play to clinch another District championship. Their other 2 wins were at home vs Tushka and on the road at Elk City.
Going into Regionals this week, Tuttle looks like the team to beat in 4A.
This week: Mon: vs Noble; Wed-Fri: Regionals
2. Dale Pirates (2A-1), 20-4; Prev: 9
In a week that saw several top teams drop one or multiple games, Dale makes a big jump into the 2nd spot after a 5-0 week that saw them defeat 2A-2 #1 Preston, A-1 #2 Dewar, 2A-1 #2 Cashion, and other 2A-1 top ten teams Christian Heritage and Vian.
The Pirates are riding an 11 game winning streak and have wins over Latta (2A-1 #3) and Okarche (A-1 #1) in that span.
This week: Tues: vs Guthrie; Thurs: at Choctaw; Fri: vs #9 Newcastle
3. Marlow Outlaws (3A), 27-4; Prev: 4
Marlow did drop a game last week in District play to a tough Davis squad, but the Outlaws still won another District title when they won game 2 of the series. The Outlaws went 4-1 last week including wins over defending 5A state champ, Duncan, and a 6-1 W on the road at then #15 Stillwater.
The Outlaws are still the class in 3A up to this point.
This week: Mon: at Plainview; Tues: vs MacArthur; Thur-Sat: Regionals
4. Sallisaw Black Diamonds (4A), 25-1; Prev 8
Due to rain last week, the Black Diamonds only played 2 games in which they won both games vs Hilldale to clinch a District championship with a perfect District record.
The Black Diamonds have the best overal record of any team in the state.
This week: Thurs-Sat: Regionals
5. Elgin Owls (4A) 28-4; Prev: 1
Elgin took the top spot in the Sweet Sixteen last week, but for the 4th straight week, the #1 team lost. Unfortunately for the Owls, they lost twice last week. Now those games came at Lone Grove and at Okarche so those aren’t anything to get too worked up about.
The Owls did win a District title this year and will host Regionals this week as they look like a serious challenger for a 4A State Championship in 2026.
This week: Mon: at Duncan, Thurs-Sat: Regionals
6. Mustang Broncos (6A), 29-5; Prev: 5
Staying in the top ten this week is Mustang. The Broncos went 2-1 last week splitting their District series with Edmond Memorial.
Mustang still has a little business to take care of this week as they play PC West in District play. If they beat the Patriots in both games, they guarantee they will host a Regional and still have a chance to be the District champ depending on what happens between Yukon and Edmond Santa Fe.
This week: Mon: at PC West; Tues: vs PC West; Thurs: vs Deer Creek
7. Mount St Mary Rockets (4A), 25-7; Prev 6
The Rockets drop a spot after a 4-1 week last week. The one loss was a 2-1 affair at then #13 Washington.
MSM won District title with an undefeated record and is 13-1 vs 4A competition. They are the only 4A team to beat Tuttle so far this season.
This week: Thurs-Sat: Regionals
8. Okarche Warriors (A-1), 17-5; Prev: 11
Okarche seems to be rounding into form as the postseason looms. The Warriors won both games last week via shutout with one of them to then SSBR #1 Elgin, 3-0.
This week: Mon: at Varnum; Thurs-Sat: Regionals
