The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Wright City Lumberjax
Classification: A-1
2025 Spring Results: 30-3(A-1 State Champions)
2025 Fall Results: 20-14 (A State quarterfinalist)
Head Coach: Kyle Butler
Head coaching experience: 17 years (14 at Wright City)
Top Returners
- Sr.Brody Guest-Murray State College He is our Leader. The one with the most experience and one of the toughest kids Ive ever coached. Leads by example and has a passion for the game/competing.
- Sr. 3B Kaleb Crosby plays the hot corner and adds some pop in the middle of our lineup.
- Sr. CF Jaxon Hill Has a lot of experience. Another leader on and off the field. Has really matured over the past year and stepped up in a big way, leading our young guys the right way. A tough out at the plate.
- Soph.SS Jaxson Miller: A name that will be heard a lot for the next few years. A baseball guy that works at it year round and plays a big role for us. Hes just a sophomore, but starting to grow and is a huge asset to our program.
- Soph. UT Jaylon Hill: A yes guy. Can play anywhere and will do anything asked of him. He also has leadership qualities that helps our program standard stay at a high level.
- Soph. OF Trence Holt: Crafty left handed pitcher. Pitch in some big games this fall and with that added experience, someone that we will lean on to make another run.
- Soph. OF Jordan Crosby: Return starting outfielder. Adds some pop to our lineup.
- Soph. 1B Kyson Battiest: Another lefty that eats up a lot of innings for us. Gained a bunch of experience this past fall and a guy that gives you a chance to win each time hes on the mound.
- Soph. Konner Scrivner: Was injured the week of regionals and missed that and the state tournament. But started for us in the outfield and hit over .300 vs a tough schedule.
- Fresh. Jake McCary: A lefty handed bat that has a ton of potential. Jake’s a kid with a lot of power, just needs more HS experience.
Top Newcomers
- Brody Guest-Murray State Hes the backbone of our defense. Just a dirtbag kinda player. Loves the game and it shows. Tough kid that wants to learn and get better every day. Also pitches for us.
Overall Team Strengths
Our pitching and defense. We have a lot of young arms so we won’t throw it by anyone, but we can pitch. Eventually that’ll pay off as they grow and get stronger but right now it forces us to be locked in defensively.
Pitchers:
Sr. Brody Guest
Sr. Kaleb Crosby
Soph. Trence Holt
Soph. Jaylon Hill
Soph. Kyson Battiest
Soph. Jaxson Miller
Overall Team Needs to Work On
Hitting. Being as young as we are, we aren’t going to hit it over anyone. With our team being a majority of sophomores, we have to minimize strikeouts and manufacture runs. We have to bunt well and run the bases the right way.
Outlook
The standard for our program has been set over many years by the staff and mostly the players. We pride ourselves on a “out work everyone” mentality, good effort, attitude and being disciplined. We had an amazing year last year winning back to back state championships but we graduated 5 of those guys. It was really important for us to get back to the state tournament this fall, led by our 3 upper classmen, for our young guys because state tournament experience is something that cant be coached. We have qualified for state 14 times in 14 years and 6 straight fall/springs. We look to add to that this season, play our best baseball when it matters most and win game 1.
