The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Hugo Buffaloes
Classification: 3A
2025 Results: 15-21
Head Coach: Scott Schier
Head coaching experience: 5 years (3 at Hugo)
Top Returners
- Jayka Santillan-Junior-pitcher/catcher. Jayka was a district game starter for us last year as a sophomore. Expect big things from him on the mound this year as well as at the plate. He led us in several offensive categories last year, expect the same an even more this year.
- Chasten Morgan-Senior-pitcher/infield/outfielder. Chasten has great speed and catch radius. Look for him to lead-off for us and be a threat on the bases. Will pitch big games for us as well.
- Keldin Cochran-Senior-infielder/outfielder/pitcher. Keldin has some pop in his bat and great range in the field. Has played both infield and outfield the last 2 years. Looking for big things from him this year.
- Zane Allen-Sophomore-3B- started at the hot corner most of the season last year. Looking for a big step from him this year.
Top Newcomers
- Jakoby Teague-Soph. Played a few games on the middle infield last year. Expect him to push for a starting position this year.
- C.J. Ward-Soph. Played several games in the outfield last year. Look for him to take over one of those positions this year. Had some success at the plate last year, look for him to build on that this year. Also expect him to be a presence on the mound this year.
- Payton McClain-Soph.- Played sparingly as a freshmen, but has a lot of upside. He will push for a starting position, maybe in the outfield; along with big expectations on the mound.
- Tyson Lemmons-Fr. A young player who is not afraid to throw strikes. Look for him to earn time on the hill as the season goes on.
- Easton Green-Fr. Pushing for playing time as an outfielder. He is proving he can handle the bat at the H.S. level early on.
Overall Team Strengths
Have several returning players with success at the H.S. level. Looking to build on those players with the younger guys coming up and continue to get better and more competitive.
Overall Team Needs to Work On
Pitching is always a key. Need some younger guys to really step up in that area and just continue to be Team players.
Outlook
Expect to make another step up this year, after 9 and 15 win seasons the last two years. If we come together and play the way we are capable, we can push to host a regional if we get some luck along the way. We have a tough schedule, so we have to grow up fast and get off to a good start.
