SSBR High School Preview: Quapaw Wildcats

The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Classification: A-1

2025 Spring Results: 15-17

Head Coach: Colten Handke

Head coaching experience: 2 years (all at Quapaw)

Top Returners

Hayden Radford, Senior, OF/P; Hayden is returning as our starting center fielder, one of our top arms on the mound, and a strong bat at the plate.
Cooper Welch, Senior, 1B/P; Our lefty, Cooper, has started first base for us the last few years. He was named our MVP from the 2025 season. He led the team with the highest batting average.
Jace Gregory, Senior, P/SS; Jace is returning as one of our starters for the last few years. He has developed into our top arm. He received our “Pitcher of the Year” award for the 2025 season.
Ayden Bruton, Senior, UTL/P; Ayden is one of those guys that can do it all. He has been one of our top arms on the mound, our leadoff hitter, and the guy that can play anywhere in the field.

Top Newcomers

Wyatt Daniels, Freshman, C/P; Wyatt will be our starting catcher for the upcoming season. Also, is a great option for a relief pitcher.
Kaden Nelson, Freshman, 2B; Kaden will be filling a critical spot as a starting middle infielder. Even as a freshman, he has the best fielding ability.
Domanikk Logan, Freshman, OF; Domanikk is our newcomer in the OF. He was our star OF in Middle School. Us as a coaching staff, have big expectations for him and the upcoming season.

Overall Team Strengths

Our greatest strengths come from our four seniors. Hayden, Cooper, Jace, and Ayden create most of our offense, and are our top four pitchers.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

This will be a year of many tests. The largest one comes from the leadership from the seniors and the responsibility that will have to be placed on our underclassmen.

Outlook

Having a strong leadership from our four seniors and needing some freshman to fill critical roles, we have very high expectations for the 2026 season. Making a run in the 2025 season, we still expect to fight our way to the State Tournament. Last year, we were in Class 2A-II. After a few competitive games in regionals, our 2025 season ended. This year, we have been tentatively classed as A-I. We know that this creates new obstacles, but our goal hasn’t changed.
