The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Davenport Bulldogs
Classification: A-2
2025 Spring Results: 15-11
Head Coach: Grant Powell
Head coaching experience: 2 years (all at Davenport)
Top Returners
- Brody Robinson– led our team in average, hits, triples, and home runs last year.
- Reece Murfin– strong bat with exceptional speed on the bases
- Carter Marshall– very talented young pitcher
- Chase Mitchell– power hitter that delivers pop in the cleanup spot
- Laken Durbin– solid contact in the middle of our lineup
- Tyler Gilkison– fundamentally sound infielder/pitcher
Top Newcomers
- N/A
Overall Team Strengths
Our team strength is base running. We have a lot of team speed and we are going to put pressure on defenses
Overall Team Needs to Work On
We struggled throwing strikes last year. With our best 2 arms being freshmen, that was expected.
Outlook
Last year was a rebuilding year for us. We went 15-11 and was 1 run away from the regional finals. 4/11 losses came within 2 runs. We return everyone back from last season, with only 1 senior this season. We are hungry and looking to be a state tournament contender this year.
