The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.

Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.

What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.

Today’s team: Okemah Panthers

Classification: 2A-1

2025 Spring Results: 4-9

Head Coach: Ed Vaughn

Head coaching experience: 21 years (1st at Okemah)

Top Returners

  • Rhett Rogers junior IF/P
  • Gage Smith junior IF/P
  • Hadlee Wells sophomore C/P
  • Kainnan Coon junior IF/P

Top Newcomers

  • Brodie Crowe IF/P sophomore
  • Dylan Smith 1B/P sophomore

Overall Team Strengths

We look to swing the bats well while giving our pitching staff time to adjust. Our defense looks to be strong up the middle.

Overall Team Needs to Work On

This team needs to learn to play with confidence. The team has the talent to win some games, but they need to learn to move past small mistakes and just keep playing.

Outlook

How our team develops will be the key. After an injury during football to a senior, we look to have a lineup of all sophomores and juniors. The ability is there, but the ability to play with confidence as well as playing together is the key.
