The calendar has turned to the a new year and that means the OSSAA high school baseball season will be here soon. Classes A1, A2, and B officially get started February 23 while the rest of the classes begin March 2.
Up until that the beginning of the season, SSBR will be providing previews of as many teams as we can. Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the high school coaches across the state of Oklahoma asking for their top returning players, top newcomers, overall strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment where their respective programs are coming into the 2026 season.
What you have below are the responses to those questions in the words of the coaches themselves.
Today’s team: Altus Bulldogs
Classification: 5A
2025 Results: 14-17
Head Coach: Brady Davis
Head coaching experience: 4th year (2nd at Altus)
Top Returners
- Tate Saxon (2026): Returning 3-year starting catcher and middle of the order hitter. Returning from injury this year. Skill-set and leadership will help a young pitching staff.
- Kashton Lamb (2026): Returning 4-year starter. Everyday SS and Top-Middle of the order hitter with speed and power.
- Ray Guzman (2026): Top returning pitcher. 4-year starter at pitcher and 2B.
Top Newcomers
- Jack Owenby (2027): Started 20 games last year as a sophomore before injury. Potential leadoff bat and true utility player with upside on the mound.
- Cole Adams (2027): Played in 20 games last year starting most at catcher after injury. Pitcher/Catcher/3B looking forward to seeing him in the lineup consistently.
- Hector Velazquez (2027): Played in 21 games last year. Returning pitcher from a year ago, looking forward to a similar role this year.
- Ketcher Lamb (2028): Varsity letter-winner from a year ago with most time spent at 1B. Expecting him to be a productive piece at 1B and middle of the order hitter.
- Luke McMahan (2029): Good Freshman player with upside. Good pop to the bat and versatile defensive player.

This season is going to be fun for this program in a lot of ways. We are encouraging leadership and accountability with all players and have received positive feedback. We are looking forward to the challenges ahead and being able to fly under the radar.
