The Piedmont Wildcats had a very successful season in 2025 going all the way to the 6A Semi-Finals getting beat by the eventual state champions, the Edmond Santa Fe Wolves. The Wildcats went 29-14 with a 9-5 district play record. After a talk with Coach Skokowski, his praise on these two Seniors were very high.

Reid Smith, C (2026) – Eastern Oklahoma State College Commit

Coach Skokowski’s Thoughts:

“Reid doesn’t get the publicity that some of our other players get sometimes but he is vital to our program’s success.  He will be a 4 year starter this year, spending his freshman year as the starting DH and the next three as our starting C.  He has been a part of 2 State Tournament teams and 2 District Champion teams. He is also committed to Eastern Oklahoma State College. What Reid brings to our team is leadership; he is our field general.  His ability to control the field is invaluable.  He is a wonderful kid and a joy to watch play.”

Reid’s Interview:

Tell me about yourself on & off the field

“As a ball player, I am a leader; as a catcher that is a quality that I have embraced. I compete and always play with a lion mentality. Off the field, I enjoy to goof off with the guys and have a good time in whatever I’m doing.”

How do you feel heading into this season compared to last year?

“I feel confident, but in a different way than I did last year. Last year we were a little young and a lot of people around the state slept on us (so) we kind of played the underdog role. This year people know we have experience and we are capable of making a run.”

What personal goals have you set for yourself?

“I want to make All-State and reach 100 career hits.”

What does a successful season look like for you?

“Making a run and winning the whole thing, we are not okay with losing games.”

What’s the biggest challenge you expect this season?

“Ourselves. If we can stay out of our own way this year, we will give a lot of people trouble.”

What do you want to be remembered for as a player at Piedmont?

“I want to be remembered as a leader who completed every game as hard as he could for his brothers. I also want to be remembered as a hard worker that never took the easy way out and paid the price.”

Drake May, RHP/SS (2026) – Hutchinson CC Commit

Coach Skokowski’s Thoughts:

“Drake was our #2 last year and will be our ace this year while starting at SS as well.  He is a great kid who is a supreme athlete.  He has topped 93 MPH on the mound this fall, is one of our fastest runners on our team, and has pop at the plate as well.  He is committed to Hutchinson CC.  Drake is battle tested having no-hit Yukon in the Regional Finals and throwing a complete game vs eventual 6A State Champ Edmond Santa Fe last year.  He will be dominant on the mound again this year and will be one of the best pitchers around.”

Drake’s Interview:

Tell me about yourself on & off the field.

“I am a confident two-way player that loves the game and the adrenaline that comes with it but also enjoy the process that it takes to be a good player. Off the field, I like hanging with the boys and my family. I like going to the lake, hunting, and fishing.”

How do you feel heading into this season compared to last year?

“I feel a lot more prepared with having a great summer and a great off-season which is giving me the confidence to show this year.”

What personal goals have you set for yourself?

“To be a lot more consistent this year and have my best year offensively and defensively.”

What does a successful season look like to you?

“State Champs!!”

What’s the biggest challenge you expect this season?

“Staying positive as a team, baseball is a hard game and can get to you mentally, but if we can stay positive as a team I think we will all like the outcome.”

What do you want to be remembered for as a player at Piedmont?

“My hard work and dedication! There is nothing better than putting on a Piedmont jersey on game day and prepping our school.”
