It is the 2nd weekend in October and that means it is State Tournament time for Fall baseball in Oklahoma.

Teams from across 3 classifications have been battling it out since the week of August 11 through the 7 week regular season, then to Districts for Classes A and B, then Regionals last week for all 3 classes.

The final 8 from each class will meet at various locations throughout the OKC metro on Friday and Saturday with the final 2 in each class facing off for the state championship at Bricktown Ballpark on Saturday.

Let’s take a look at the final 8 teams in Class A.

We will also keep score of each game on this post and use it as our scoreboard for the Class 2A State Tournament.

Okarche Warriors (27-2)

  • Fall State Tournament Appearances: 9
  • All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 5-8
  • Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (Semifinalist)

Okarche has been the best team this season in Class A. They are the #1 ranked team in Class A by the coaches and they are the #3 team in our SSBR Elite Eight. Their 2 losses have come against the #1 (Dale) and #2 (Preston) teams in our Elite Eight.

That is not to say that Okarche doesn’t have any wins against top competition. The have 2 wins over 2 see Canute along with wins over other Class A state teams Cameron and Wright City. Other wins vs state qualifiers from other classes include Ft Cobb-Broxton (3x), Dale, Latta (2x), Calera (2x), Byng (2x), Calumet, and Dover.

Ryan Beaman is in his 7th year at Okarche.

Canute Trojans (28-7)

  • Fall State Tournament Appearances: 6
  • Fall State Championships: 1 (2020)
  • All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 4-5
  • Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2022

The 2nd seed in this year’s tournament is the Canute Trojans. They are the #2 ranked team in the OSSAA Coaches Poll and we have them #8 in the SSBR Elite Eight.

After winning the Spring state championship in Class A-1, Canute came into this season as one of the favorites in Class A. The Trojans are the 2nd best team in Class A right now. That does not mean Canute hasn’t had their ups and downs this year.

The Trojans have 2 wins against other Class A state team Navajo. Wins against other state qualifiers from other classes include Tushka, Ft Cobb-Broxton, Calumet, Byng, and Dover.

Bobby Blackburn is in his 3rd year at Canute as the head coach.

Navajo Indians (24-11)

  • Fall State Tournament Appearances: 8
  • All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 5-7
  • Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (0-1)

Head coach, Weston Winters, said the Indians would be solid at the plate and on the base paths, but Navajo would have to find some pitching to challenge for a state tournament berth. It looks like Navajo found enough because they come into the tournament as the 3 seed according to the coaches.

Navajo played the vast majority of their games against Class A teams going 16-5. They do have a wins against other Class A state team Canute. Wins against other state teams include Ft Cobb-Broxton (2x) and Hammon.

Winter has been leading the Indians for 19 years.

Rattan Rams (19-10)

  • Fall State Appearances: 32
  • Fall State Championships: 7 (last 2023)
  • All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 35-25
  • Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (Runner Up)

Rattan has now made the Fall State Tournament for the 8th consecutive year. After winning the championship in 2023 and finishing runner up last year, the Rams had to find their way as they lost some key players from those teams.

The Rams started off slow this season losing 4 of their first 6 games. They have gone 17-4 the rest of the way.

Rattan is 11-0 against Class A teams this season including 2 wins each over fellow Class A state qualifiers Cameron and Wister as well a win over Arapaho-Butler in the Regionals.

The Rams also have 2 wins over Class B State qualifier, Stuart.

Michael Clay is in his 12th year as the head coach at Rattan.

Arapaho-Butler Indians (23-7)

  • Fall State Appearances: 1st
  • All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 0-0
  • Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: N/A

Arapaho-Butler has been a team on the rise the last few years. The Indians have made the last 2 Spring Class A State tournaments before making their first Fall State tournament this year.

A-B has been dominant this season against Class A competition going 16-1. They have wins over the 2 seed, Canute, and 3 seed, Navajo.

Bryan Holt is in his 4th year at Arapaho-Butler.

Cameron Yellowjackets (17-7)

  • Fall State Appearances: 13
  • Fall State Championships: 2 (last 1994)
  • All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 17-10
  • Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 1998

Cameron was one of the best small school programs in the entire state in the 90’s winning 11 combined state titles. However, this is the first Fall State Tournament for the Yellowjackets since 1998.

Cameron got off to a hot start winning their first 6 games. After that, it has been a bit of a roller coaster since. They come into the State Tournament as the Regional Runner Up from the Navajo Regional where they sandwiched 2, 10-0 run rules vs Roff around a loss to Navajo.

The Yellowjackets have a win vs other Class A State team, Wister as well as a win vs 2A State team, Tushka.

Kevin Lomon is in his 10th year as the skipper at Cameron.

Wright City Lumberjax (20-13)

  • Fall State Appearances: 13
  • Fall State Championships: 1 (2024)
  • All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 7-12
  • Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (State Champ)

You can make a case that Wright City was the best team in the state of Oklahoma last school year as they were one of only two teams to win 2 state championships (Ft Cobb-Broxton).

However, it has not been as “easy” for the Jax this Fall as they had to find their way as the inexperienced players developed. Getting back to the State Tournament is a testament to the leadership of head coach, Kyle Butler, who is in his 14th year at Wright City.

Wright City has 2 wins over Class A State team Wister as well as wins against other State qualifiers from other classes, Tushka and Colbert.

Wister Wildcats (17-10)

  • Fall State Appearances: 18
  • Fall State Championships: 1 (1983)
  • All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 13-16
  • Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (Semifinalist)

Wister has been one of the top teams in Class A for several years. However, they are the one team not ranked in the top 8 of the latest OSSAA Poll that made the State Tournament.

It has been an up and down year for the Wildcats. They are 0-4 against other Class A State teams, but have a win over Class 2A State team, Calera.

Wister comes into the State Tournament as the Regional Runner Up from the Okarche Regional winning 2 elimination games after losing to Union City in the opener.
