It is the 2nd weekend in October and that means it is State Tournament time for Fall baseball in Oklahoma.
Teams from across 3 classifications have been battling it out since the week of August 11 through the 7 week regular season, then to Districts for Classes A and B, then Regionals last week for all 3 classes.
The final 8 from each class will meet at various locations throughout the OKC metro on Friday and Saturday with the final 2 in each class facing off for the state championship at Bricktown Ballpark on Saturday.
Let’s take a look at the final 8 teams in Class 2A.
We will also keep score of each game on this post and use it as our scoreboard for the Class 2A State Tournament.
Preston Pirates (28-1)
- Fall State Tournament Appearances: 11
- All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 3-10
- Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (0-1)
Preston comes into the State Tournament with the best record of any team in the state at any class. They are ranked #1 in the OSSAA 2A Coaches Poll and #2 in the SSBR Elite Eight. After a loss to Dale in the Dale Invitational in the first weekend of the season, the Pirates have won 26 straight games.
The Pirates avenged that loss to Dale just a week later and have wins over other 2A State teams, Colbert and Latta. Other wins against State qualifiers in other classes include Okarche, Cameron (2x), Wister, and Stuart.
The Pirates are led by head coach, Ryan Hudson, who is in his 12th season at Preston.
Dale Pirates (25-3)
- Fall State Tournament Appearances: 39
- Fall State Championships: 11 (last 2022)
- All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 53-28
- Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (Runner Up)
The 2nd seed in this year’s tournament is the Dale Pirates. They are the #2 ranked team in the OSSAA Coaches Poll and we have them #1 in the SSBR Elite Eight.
After starting the season 4-3 in their first 7 games (which included a win over Preston), the Pirates have found their stride under first year head coach, Cody Merrell. Those 3 losses were to Preston and Okarche twice. Since then Dale has reeled off 21 straight wins including victories over fellow 2A State teams Byng (2x) and Colbert. Dale also has wins over other State qualifiers in other classes, Okarche, Stuart, Calumet (2x), Canute, Leedey, Navajo (2x), Arapaho-Butler, and Ft Cobb-Broxton (2x)
Silo Rebels (25-2)
- Fall State Tournament Appearances: 24
- Fall State Championships: 7 (last 2024)
- All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 35-16
- Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (2A Champ)
Perhaps no team is playing better right now than the 3 seed, Silo. We have them at #4 in our SSBR Elite Eight. The Rebels are riding a 16 game winning streak of their own.
Silo’s strength all season has been pitching and defense. The Rebels have allowed only 4 runs or more only 3 times this season and 3 runs only twice. Silo has given up only 4 runs in their last 7 games with the last 4 being of the shut out variety.
The Rebels have seemed to found their sticks since the beginning of September. Since then, the Rebels have averaged scoring 7 runs/game.
Silo has beaten fellow 2A State teams Calera, Tushka, Byng, and Colbert. They’ve also beaten other State qualifiers Stuart, Wright City (4x), Tupelo (2x), Rattan (2x), and Calumet. Their 2 losses came to Latta (who they play in the first round) and Calumet.
Eddie Jeffcoat leads the Rebels and is in his 3rd season at Silo and his 17th overall.
Calera Bulldogs (22-7)
- Fall State Appearances: 3
- All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 0-3
- Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2025 (0-1)
Calera is ranked at #4 in the OSSAA poll and #6 in the SSBR Elite Eight.
The goal for every team is to be playing their best baseball at the end of the season and the Bulldogs appear to be doing that. Under first year head coach, Cody Luman, the Bulldogs are 14-3 since the start of September after an 8-4 start.
Among those wins in September, the Bulldogs have beaten fellow 2A State team Colbert twice.
Unfortunately for Calera, they have lost games to other 2A State teams Byng, Silo, Colbert, and Tushka.
They have beaten other State qualifiers from other classes Wister (2x), Stuart (2x), Tupelo (2x), Navajo, Calumet, Wright City, Mill Creek, and Rattan.
Byng Pirates (17-7)
- Fall State Appearances: 37
- Fall State Championships: 6 (last 2004)
- All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 42-30
- Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (0-1)
Byng comes into the State Tournament as the 5 seed and ranked #8 in the SSBR Elite Eight.
However, the Pirates are limping into the tournament compared to the 4 ranked seeded ahead of them. The Pirates are 9-6 in their last 15 games including a stretch where they lost 4 in a row in the middle of September. It is worth noting those losses came against Dale, Canute, Silo, and Okarche so it’s not like they weren’t playing anybody.
Byng has wins over fellow Class 2A state teams Tushka, Calera, Latta, and Colbert (2x). Their losses to 2A State teams include Latta, Dale (2x), and Silo. Other losses include twice to Okarche.
Latta Panthers (19-8)
- Fall State Appearances: 36
- Fall State Championships: 5 (last 2001)
- All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 33-31
- Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (0-1)
Latta is the 6 seed in the 2A State Tournament and is a team that can play with just about anyone. The Panthers handed Silo one of their 2 losses this season via a shut out and has a win over Byng.
Outside of a loss to Drummond, the Panthers haven’t had a “bad loss.” Their 9-1 run rule loss to Preston was tied at 1-1 in the 6th before it got away from them and their other losses are to Calumet, Byng, Okarche (2x), Colbert, and Tushka.
Latta has beaten other State qualifiers Ft Cobb-Broxton and Tupelo twice.
Head coach Dillon Atkinson is in his 7th year at Latta.
Tushka Tigers (21-8)
- Fall State Appearances: 10
- Fall State Championships: 1 (2016)
- All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 6-8
- Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2024 (Semifinalist)
Tushka came into the season having to replace some key contributors off their 2025 Spring State Championship team. The results showed the Tigers were still adjusting as they started 6-6 through the month of August.
However, as head coach Landon Carper said in his team preview before the season, he liked the Tigers’ work ethic and the results since the start of September started to show. Tushka has gone 15-2 in their last 17 games and are riding high in confidence heading into state.
The Tigers have beaten fellow 2A State teams Calera and Latta since the beginning of September as well as other State qualifiers Ft Cobb-Broxton, Wister, Tupelo, Rattan, and Wright City twice.
Carper is in his 2nd year at Tushka.
Colbert Leopards (20-10)
- Fall State Appearances: 7
- All Time Fall State Tournament Record: 1-7
- Last Fall State Tournament Appearance: 2012 (0-1)
The Leopards are the 8th and final team of the 2A State field, but don’t take them for granted. Colbert has plenty of postseason experience after making it to the semifinals in the Spring state tournament.
In his 2nd year at Colbert, Zach Crabtree has turned around a program that had not had much success in a while. Perhaps the culture that Crabtree has built at Colbert hasn’t been on display more than what it was last week. After losing the opening game of their series with Oktaha, the Leopards then won 2 straight elimination games to win the series and make the state tournament.
The Leopards have won games against fellow 2A State teams Tushka, Calera, and Latta this season as well as games against other state qualifiers Rattan and Ft Cobb-Broxton.
