Each week, SSBR sends out a nomination form to the head coaches for each program. They submit one player and one pitcher from their team along with statistics and any context they might want to provide that will be used for consideration.
On Monday’s SSBR will announce the winner for each classification. Along with announcing each winner, we will share the names of all the nominations received.
Let’s take a look at the winners for week 6.

Class 2A
Player of the Week
Nic Tolbert, Oktaha Tigers
This is the 2nd week in a row for Tolbert to win the Player of the Week. He is the first to do that for this particular accolade (Easton Roby won back to back as a pitcher in Class A).
Tolbert had an even bigger week this week as he led the Tigers to a 3rd place finish at the Ripley Tournament hitting out of the 2 hole.
Tolbert’s line (5 games): .614/.783/1.308, 2 HR, 10 RBI, 3 2B, 9 BB, HBP, 5 R, 5 SB
Other nominees:
- Hoff Weil, Calera
- Chase Harris, Dale
- Kaiden Goolsby, Latta
- Zane Sander, Silo
Pitcher of the Week
Cruz Garrett, Dale Pirates
A lot of talk regarding pitching when it comes to Dale has been around Briar Turman. While Turman rightfully deserves the attention, don’t forget to check out Cruz Garrett as well.
Garrett turned in one of the most dominant performances we’ve seen so far this season. Against a solid Colbert team in the AmPo East West Showdown, Garrett ;was as close to unhittable as you can get without throwing a no hitter. In his 7 innings, Garrett allowed only six ball to be put in play. He allowed 1 hit and 2 walks while striking out 15 as Dale “cruzed” to a 4-0 win.
Garrett’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, 7 IP, H, 0 R, 2 BB, 15 K
Other nominees:
- Zaiden Craige, Calera
- Christian Wolfe, Latta
- Nolan Northcutt, Silo
Class A
Player of the Week
Shade Cody, Rattan Rams
Rattan got off to an uncharacteristic slow start this season sitting at 2-4 after their first 6 games. However, since then, the Rams have won 12 of their last 15 games with 2 of those losses to Silo.
Veteran player, Shade Cody, is a big reason why the Rams are surging and look to make a run in the postseason. Cody showed why this past week as he led the team (literally from the lead off spot) to a 2nd place finish in their Fall Classic.
Cody also pitched a 6 inning shoutout vs Tushka in the semis of the Rattan Fall Classic as the Rams run ruled the Tigers, 8-0.
Cody’s line (5 games): .500/.579/.938, 2 HR, 7 RBI, 2B, 3 BB, 4 R
Other nominees:
- Rylan Moore, Arapaho-Butler
- Jake Beutler, Canute
- Kanyon Mertz, Navajo
- Garrett Ray, Ninnekah
- Brett Carnott, Okarche
- Brody Guest, Wright City
Pitcher of the Week
Kyson Battiest, Wright City Lumberjax
After winning both state titles last school year, Wright City has had an up and down season with a young squad so far this fall. However, the Lumberjax have shown signs in September that this young squad has some talent.
Kyson Battiest showed some of the talent against a fellow Class A squad on Thursday at the Rattan Fall Classic. Battiest did not allow a Wister Wildcat to score in the Jax 6-0 shutout of the Wildcats.
Battiest’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, BB, 6 K
Other nominees:
- Jiles Southall, Arapaho-Butler
- Jake Lingle, Navajo
- Garrett Ray, Ninnekah,
- Easton Roby, Okarche
- Shade Cody, Rattan
Class B
Player of the Week
Kingston Arnold, Calumet Chieftains
Coming into the last week of the season, Class B looks as wide open as it has been in a long time. However, atop the favorites are the Calumet Chieftains as they’ve played a tough schedule and have been the most consistent team in the class.
A big reason for that is the play of Kingston Arnold. Arnold showed by head coach, Cody Thiessen, has him in the middle of the lineup as the veteran was a run producer in the Chieftains game vs Canute in the Ripley Tournament finals. Arnold as 3-4 with a HR and 5 RBI and 2 doubles.
Arnold also started the game on the mound vs Canute and had a no hitter through 5 earning the win for the Chieftains.
Kingston’s line (3 games): .556/.636/1.110, HR, 7 RBI, 2 2B, BB, 5 R
Other nominees:
- Holden Hamilton, Coleman
- Briesan Bastible, Tupelo
Pitcher of the Week
Keaton Adams, Leedey
There have been times this season where Leedey has shown they are a contender in Class B. If they get performances on the mound like the one Keaton Adams gave vs Navajo this past week, the Bison could play with anyone.
Adams’ line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, 7 IP, 2 H, ER, BB, 11 K
Other nominees:
- Kingston Arnold, Calumet
- Holden Hamilton, Coleman
- Aiden Walkup, Tupelo
