The weekly SSBR Fall Elite Eight is sponsored this season by our partner, Conner Darnell Designs. If you have a need for a graphic designer, photographer, or sports media, give Conner a look at his website: connerdarnelldesigns.com.
Here at SSBR we try to have fun with what we do. We cover a sport that is supposed to be fun and we want to convey that in our content.
One of the ways we do it is by doing our version of a ranking system. We take all the teams regardless of classification and do our best to rank them on how they are doing relative to their class.
*In the Spring we have the caveat that says we are not ranking them on a “head to head” basis. In the Fall since teams may play each other regardless of class more regularly, “head to head” is more of a factor.
We also do our rankings based on results more than what we think who would necessarily win a game. If a spot comes down to two teams, if they’ve played head to head the result of that game weighs heavily in that decision. (The first week’s rankings, however, do have what a team’s expectations for the season factored in, but as the season goes along it will be the results that matter.)
In the Spring we do a “Sweet Sixteen. In the Fall we do an “Elite Eight.” because there aren’t as many teams as the Spring, but six is too little for the Fall
As always, this is for fun so please treat it as such.

Dropped Out
- Ft Cobb-Broxton (B), PR 8: Last week: 1-3: Win: Arapaho-Butler; Losses: Dale, AmPo, Colbert
1. Dale Pirates (2A), 18-3
Previous ranking: 1
Last week: 3-0
A week afger taking the top spot, Dale goes undefeated beating upper level teams from each class. The Pirates defeated then #8 Ft Cobb-Broxton at home on Tuesday, 9-5. Then they beat 2A’s Colbert, 4-0, on Thursday and Arapaho-Butler (A), 11-8, on Friday as part of the AmPo East West Showdown.
Cruz Garrett was the highlight for the Pirates this week as he threw a complete game shutout vs Colbert allowing only 1 hit and striking out 15.
This week: Tue vs Oktaha; Thurs vs #7 Byng
2. Preston Pirates (2A), 22-1
Previous ranking: 2
Last week: 2-0
Preston keeps rolling along. It seems like the only thing that can slow them down right now is the weather. The Pirates were supposed to play 3 games this week with the last 2 on Friday at the AmPo East West Showdown against AmPo and Ft Cobb. The storms that came through overnight on Thursday pushed back the start times, so the Pirates pivoted to schedule Roff at home instead where they won 4-1. Preston beat Varnum, 6-3, on Tuesday.
This week: Mon vs Moss; Thurs vs Riverside; Thurs vs Stuart; Fri vs OCA
3. Okarche Warriors (A), 21-2
Previous ranking: 3
Last week: 3-0
Okarche dropped to #3 last week after being in the top 2 all season after a close loss to Dale.
This week the Warriors showed why they’ve been a top team all season. Okarche went 3-0 this week beating 3 top level teams but a total of 26-3. They hosted top ten team in Class A, Drummond, on Tuesday defeating them 11-1. Then on Thursday, the Warriors went on the road to then #6 Byng defeating them by the same score of 11-1. Rounding out the week, Okarche beat 2A’s Latta, 5-1, at home.
Districts are this week for the Warriors.
This week: Mon at Ft Cobb-Broxton; Thur-Fri Districts vs Indianola
4. Silo Rebels (2A), 20-2
Previous ranking: 4
Last week: 5-0
Nobody had a better week this week than Silo. They started the week defeating surging Rattan, 9-4. On Tuesday, the Rebel beat then #6 Byng at home, 9-2. They finished the week winning the Rattan Fall Classic defeating Tupelo, Wright City, and Rattan.
Heading into the last week of the season, the Rebels are a real threat to defend their 2024 2A State Championship.
This week: Mon at Wister; Tues at #5 Calumet; Thurs vs Latta; Fri at Colbert
5. Calumet Chieftains (B), 13-7
Previous ranking: NR
Last week: 3-0
Calumet reenters the Elite Eight after a 3 week absence.
The Chieftains went perfect this past week and won the Ripley Tournament in the process. More importantly, Calumet has won 5 games in a row including a win over then #5 Canute int he finals of the Ripley Tournament.
At points this season, Class B teams like FCB, Leedey, and Stuart have surged and made appearances in the Elite Eight only to lose multiple games the next week. Calumet has been the most consistent this season and they have a win over Silo as well as the win over Canute.
This week: Tues vs #4 Silo; Thurs-Fri Districts vs Lomega & Sentinel
6. Canute Trojans (A), 22-6
Previous ranking: 5
Last week: 4-1
After a roller coaster August, the Trojans are 12-2 since the calendar turned to September. Those 2 losses are to the top team in Class A (Okarche) and Class B (Calumet) with the 2nd one in the finals of the Ripley Tournament.
If there is a team in Class A that, on paper, can beat Okarche, it looks to be Canute.
This week: Mon vs Arapaho-Butler; Thurs-Fri Districts vs Fargo-Gage/Ft Supply
7. Byng Pirates (2A), 12-6
Previous ranking: 6
Last week: 0-2
If Silo had the best week of any team this past week, Byng had the opposite. The Pirates went 0-2 in their games vs SSBR ranked teams. They lost 9-2 at Silo on Tuesday and 11-1 at home to Okarche on Thursday.
The Pirates have lost their last 4 games, but they’ve all come against SSBR Elite Eight teams: Dale, Canute, Silo, and Okarche.
Byng is extremely talented and is still a factor in the 2A state championship race.
This week: Mon vs Roff; Thurs at #1 Dale; Fri vs Oktaha
8. Calera Bulldogs (2A), 18-6
Previous ranking: 7
Last week: 4-1
A week after winning their own tournament, the Bulldogs beat the team (Colbert) they beat in the finals just 2 days later. At the Rattan Fall Classic, Calera dropped their opener to an improving Tushka team before running off 3 wins vs Stuart, Tupelo, and Wister to take home the consolation championship.
The Bulldogs may not look like they are on the level of Dale, Preston, and Silo, but they have shown they have the pitching to stay with them at times.
This week: Tues vs Rattan; Thurs vs Howe
