Each week, SSBR sends out a nomination form to the head coaches for each program. They submit one player and one pitcher from their team along with statistics and any context they might want to provide that will be used for consideration.

On Monday’s SSBR will announce the winner for each classification. Along with announcing each winner, we will share the names of all the nominations received.

Let’s take a look at the winners for week 4.

Class 2A

Player of the Week

Nic Tolbert, Oktaha Tigers

The Wichita State commit had a big week leading the Tigers to a 3-1 week including back to back wins in the Silo Tournament. Typically a middle of the order bat, Tolbert has been moved up to the lead off spot to try and jump start the Tigers’ offense.

Tolbert’s line (4 games): .615/.722/1.385, 2 HR, 3 RBI, 2 2B, 3B, 3 BB, 9 R, 3 SB

Other nominees:

  • Zaiden Craige, Calera
  • AJ Carpenter, Dale
  • Hunter McElhannon , Preston
  • Drew Cabrera, Santa Fe South
  • Cannon Atwood, Silo
  • Kason Hull, Tushka

Pitcher of the Week

Aiden McCarty, Silo Rebels

McCarty wins the Pitcher of the Week for the 2nd time this season.

He pitched in 2 games this week – both in a relief role. McCarty did not give up a run in his 9 innings pitched, but it was his 2nd outing that needs to be talked about. McCarty came in relief for the Rebels in the semis of their tournament in the first inning after Wright City had scored a run and had baserunners with no one out. Not only did McCarty get the Rebels out of that inning without giving up another run, he sent all 21 batters he faced back to the dugout without touching first base. It technically wasn’t a perfect game, but it was a 21 up, 21 down performance for the junior

McCarty’s line: G 2, GS 0, 1-0, 9 IP, 2 H, BB, 13 SO (7 perfect IP vs Wright City in relief)

Other nominees:

  • Logan Bumgarner, Calera
  • Elvis Edwards, Dale
  • Carter McKinzie, Oktaha
  • Hunter McElhannon, Preston
  • Caleb Granados, Santa Fe South
  • DJ Alberda, Tushka

Class A

Player of the Week

Rylan Moore, Arapaho-Butler Indians

Arapaho-Butler had a big week last week going 5-0 and winning the Coach Holt Tournament in Sentinel. One of the Indians’ best players, Rylan Moore, was a big reason why.

In the Indians’ five games, Moore was a one man wrecking crew as he hit for average and slug.

Moore’s line (5games): .778/.867/1.556, 2 HR, 8 RBI, 2B, 4 BB, 8 R, SB

Other nominees:

  • Jake Beutler, Canute
  • Tanner Haney, Ninnekah
  • Brett Carnott, Okarche

Pitcher of the Week

Jack Goldsberry, Arapaho-Butler Indian

It is a clean sweep for Arapaho-Butler this week as Jack Goldsberry takes home the award for pitching.

Goldsberry has been one of, if not the most, consistent pitchers in Class A. He has been nominated for the award several times.

It was his performance in the championship game of the Coach Holt Tournament vs Navajo that got him the award this week.

Goldsberry’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, 6.1 IP, 2 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 7 K

Other nominees:

  • Nate Bryant, Canute
  • Tanner Henry, Ninnekah
  • Brett Carnott, Okarche

Class B

Player of the Week

Colton Johnson, Asher

Asher is a team that is starting to come into form late in the season and Colton Johnson is a big reason why. The Indians had a big game this week vs Mill Creek in Class B and Johnson led the way as he had 4 RBI in the game

Johnson’s line (3 games): .667/.778/.833, 6 RBI, 2B, 3 BB, 3 R, 2SB

Other nominees:

  • Tracer Rutledge, Boswell
  • Kaleb Thiessen, Calumet
  • Kase Smith, Coleman
  • Jamison Spear, Mason
  • Brayden Knight, Mill Creek
  • Briesan Bastible, Tupelo

Pitcher of the Week

Tracer Rutledge, Boswell

Sometimes relief pitchers get overlooked when it comes to individual awards. Not this week.

Tracer Rutledge came in relief early in Boswell’s game vs Caney. The Scorpions needed a big time performance from Rutledge and that is what he gave them as he threw the final 5.2 innings of the game leading them to the win.

Rutledges’s line: G 1/GS 0, 1-0, 5.2 IP, 3 H, R, 0 ER, BB, 9 K (all in relief)

Other nominees:

  • Cason Foster, Asher
  • Cale Stilley, Calumet
  • Brodie Atwell, Mason
  • Brayden Knight, Mill Creek
  • Aiden Walkup, Tupelo
