Time flies when you’re having fun. At least that’s what they say.
We are now coming up on the 2nd to last week of the regular season. We are so close to the end of the regular season, the Districts assignments for Classes A and B were announced last Friday.
This week our SSBR Games of the Week have some big time matchups as teams look to build confidence heading into the postseason.
- We have a rubber matchup of 2A teams
- An interclass matchup of top 5 teams in their respective class
- Three games featuring all SSBR Elite Eight teams
*Home teams listed first

Colbert Leopards (2A), 13-6 vs #7 Calera Bulldogs (2A), 14-5, Monday, September 15
Unless it is the Spring season where Classes 3A-6A play District games every week, it is rare that we see 2 teams play back to back games. However, that is what we have here. Calera beat Colbert this past Saturday to win the championship of their tournament.
This will also be the “rubber” game between these 2 teams. On August 25, Colbert went on the road and beat Calera 5-2. This past Saturday, Calera won 9-1.
These 2 teams seem to be the 5 and 6 teams in Class 2A. A win here should give the winner some confidence heading into the postseason.
Navajo Inidians (A), 15-9 vs Leedey Bison (B), 16-5, Monday, September 15
This is a matchup of 2 teams out west that are poised to make deep runs into their respective state tournaments. Both teams have also spent time in the SSBR Elite Eight as recently as 2 weeks ago.
Navajo is one of the top 4 teams in Class A up to this point. They have a win over the #2 team, Canute.
Leedey is in the same spot in Class B as Navajo is in Class A. The Bison have won 10 of their 12 games vs Class B competition with their 2 losses to Ft Cobb-Broxton and an extra inning loss to Hammon.
#4 Silo Rebels (2A), 15-2 vs #6 Byng Pirates (2A), 12-4, Tuesday, September 16
This is the first matchup of the week between 2 teams in the SSBR Elite Eight.
Silo comes into the week winners of 6 straight and winners of their tournament this weekend. As we talked about in the write up in the SSBR Elite Eight, the Rebels are an outstanding team on the mound.
Byng is coming into the week losing back to back games for the first time this season. The Pirates lost in extra innings to Dale in the semis of the Okarche/AmPo Tournament and then they lost to Canute in the 3rd place game.
Both of these teams are in the upper echelon of Class 2A and are contenders for the state championship.
#1 Dale Pirates (2A), 16-3 vs #8 Ft Cobb-Broxton Mustangs (B), 14-8, Tuesday, September 16
Dale comes into this week winners of 14 straight and moving into the top spot of the SSBR Elite Eight. The Pirates have wins over Preston, Canute (2x), Ft Cobb- Broxton, Leedey, Navajo (2x), Calumet, Byng, Okarche.
Ft Cobb-Broxton looks like they are one of the top 2 teams in Class B. While they may not be as dominant as they were in the past few years, the Mustangs seem to be rounding into form. Yes, their record is 14-8, but they’ve played against only 2 Class B teams so far and they have been within the last 2 weeks. The Mustangs beat Leedey and they came back in a close game vs Calumet.
#6 Byng Pirates (2A), 12-4 vs #3 Okarche Warriors (A), 18-2, Thursday, September 18
This is another example of the toughness of Okarche’s schedule this season. They’ve already played the top 2 teams in Class 2A which is where their 2 losses have come from.
Okarche already has 2 wins vs Canute with the most recent being a 6-0 win in the Okarche/AmPo Tournament semis on Friday.
