Each week, SSBR sends out a nomination form to the head coaches for each program. They submit one player and one pitcher from their team along with statistics and any context they might want to provide that will be used for consideration.
On Monday’s SSBR will announce the winner for each classification. Along with announcing each winner, we will share the names of all the nominations received.
Let’s take a look at the winners for week 4.

Class 2A
Player of the Week
Jaron Varner, Calera Bulldogs
Calera is having a nice season backing up their 31 win, State semifinalist campaign in the Spring. The Bulldogs have picked up some nice wins and they look like a regional host in Class 2A.
Jaron Varner did his best this past week to keep the Bulldogs in that spot. In his 3 games this week, he provided the slug for Calera.
Varner’s line (3 games): .500/.600/1.250, HR, 6 RBI, 2 2B, BB, 3 R
Other nominees:
- Kaden Dean, Preston
- Juan Dominguez, Santa Fe South
- Aiden McCarty, Silo
- Kason Hull, Tushka
Pitcher of the Week
Brock Brittain, Latta
Latta is turning out to be a team to watch in 2A and a team that no one will want to see in the postseason. A big reason for that is their pitching. The Panthers have 3 shutouts as a team and 4 more games where they gave up only 1 run.
Brock Brittain provided one of those shutouts this past week and it came against then SSBR #3 Byng. Brittain kept the offense of the Pirates off the board on his way to a complete game shutout.
Brittain’s line: G 1, GS 1, 1-0, CG, 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 3 BB, 5 K
Other nominees:
- Kaden Neill, Colbert
- Braylon Hastings, Tushka
Class A
Player of the Week
Teague Farris, Canute Trojans
Canute needed a good week last week and they got it. The Trojans went 4-0 last week including 2 wins against Navajo.
Teague Farris was a big part of the Trojans’ success last week. The highlight of the week for Farris was his perfect 3-3, 5 RBI night vs Hydro-Eakly.
Haney’s line (23 games): .538/.615/.923, HR, 7 RBI, 3B, BB, 5 R, SB
Other nominees:
- Orsan Jubara, Arapaho-Butler
- Daniel Jones-Sterling, Ninnekah
- Easton Roby, Okarche
Pitcher of the Week
Nate Bryant, Canute Trojans
In a category that had been dominated by Okarche the first 3 weeks, Nate Bryant of Canute is the first non Warrior to win the Class A Pitcher of the Week. Not only that, Bryant is our 3rd 2x award winner this season and he joins Reese Littlefield of Byng as the only 2 to win Player and Pitcher of the Week awards.
As we said before, Canute needed a big week this week. In Bryant’s start against then SSBR #7 Navajo, he was dominant as he went a complete game, 7 innings vs the Indians.
Bryant’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, 7 IP, 2 H, R, 0 ER, BB. 5 K
Other nominees:
- Luke Berry, Arapaho-Butler
- Garrett Ray, Ninnekah
- Cy Callamore, Okarche
- Joel Meeh, Wister
Class B
Player of the Week
Sheldon Lindsey, Mill Creek Bullfrogs
Mill Creek is a team that has put themselves in the boat of hosting a regional this Fall. The coaches have them ranked #5 in Class B (as of Tuesday, 9/2) and they’ve won 14 of their 16 games.
Higgin’s line (4 games): .667/.818/.883, 2 RBI, 2B, 5 BB, 5 R, 3 SB
Other nominees:
- Talon Arnold, Calumet
- Grant Milner, Duke
- Devon Sands, Mason
- Dillon Robinson, Moss
- Rylan McCool, Oilton
- Cade Carlton, Stuart
Pitcher of the Week
Kingston Arnold, Calumet Chieftains
Calumet has a record of 8-5 at this point, but do not let that fool you. The Chieftains have played in an incredibly tough schedule and they are still one of the favorites in the Class B State Championship race.
Kingston Arnold was a microcosm of that this past week. The Chieftains played Class 2A power, Silo, in the Asher Festival of Champions. All Arnold did was shut down the Rebels offense on his way to a complete game, shutout.
Arnold’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, 7 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 4 K
Other nominees:
- Nicola Sant’Anna, Arnett
- Grant Milner, Duke
- Keenan Mogridge, Mason
- Blake Smith, Mill Creek
- Landon Golden, Moss
- Kolby Browning, Oilton
- Nolan Stewart, Stuart
