Each week, SSBR sends out a nomination form to the head coaches for each program. They submit one player and one pitcher from their team along with statistics and any context they might want to provide that will be used for consideration.
On Monday’s SSBR will announce the winner for each classification. Along with announcing each winner, we will share the names of all the nominations received.
Let’s take a look at the winners for week 3.

Class 2A
Player of the Week
Kaden Dean, Preston Pirates
Preston is rolling along as the #1 team in our SSBR Elite Eight rankings and they are riding a 9 game winning streak. Kaden Dean is a big reason why. The senior provides an elite bat near the top of the lineup, provides outstanding defense in CF, and he is also an elite pitcher on the mound.
During the Pirates 3-0 this week, Dean did all of that (he threw in a save in his one appearance on the mound).
As Preston Head Coach, Ryan Hudson, says, “He keeps proving why he is the best player in 2A.”
Dean’s line (3 games): .778/.800/1.333, HR, 5 RBI, 2 2B, BB, 5 SB
Other nominees:
- Wyatt Seeley, Dale
- David Komalty, Riverside
- Zane Sander, Silo
Pitcher of the Week
Briar Turman, Dale Pirates
Briar Turman started to establish himself as a pitcher to watch last Spring. With a large frame, Turman throws hard, has good location, and mixes in his off speed stuff in spots. He can be an intimidating force on the mound for the Pirates and he showed why this week in his start against surging Navajo in the winner bracket final at the Hydro-Eakly Labor Day Tournament.
Turman pitched about as good of a game as one can. Dale run ruled Navajo in 5 innings, but Turman didn’t need that much help as he threw a perfect game in one of the most efficient games you’ll see. In the 5 innings, Turman threw only 68 pitches and 9 of the 15 recorded outs were strikeouts – only 6 balls put in fair territory for the Indians.
Turman’s line: G 1, GS 1, 1-0, CG, 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 9 K (Perfect game, 68 pitches)
Other nominees:
- Maddux McCullar, Calera
- Kaden Neill, Colbert
- Ryder Perry, Latta
- Hunter McElhannon, Preston
- Landon Davis, Riverside
Player of the Week
Tanner Haney, Ninnekah Owls
Ninnekah is not a team that gets a lot of attention across the state. However, their is improvement in the Owls’ program as their 7 wins through the first 3 weeks are already more than they had last Fall (6) and equals what they had in the Spring.
Tanner Haney provided the spark for the Owls this week as Ninnekah had an undefeated week and they are currently riding a 4 game winning streak
Haney’s line (2 games): .571/.571/1.143, HR, 5 RBI, 2B, 2 R, SB (GW RBI 2B)
Other nominees:
- Jack Goldsberry, Arapaho-Butler
- Easton Roby, Okarche
Pitcher of the Week
Luke Hill, Okarche Warriors
It may not be the same pitcher it was the first 2 weeks (Easton Roby), the Pitcher of the Week will stay with Okarche.
The Warriors had their 2nd perfect week of the season winning the Roff Tournament and Luke Hill provided what they needed on the mound. With their offense uncharacteristically struggling against Calera in the semifinalas, Hill went the distance keeping the Bulldogs off the board as Okarche won, 2-0.
Hill’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, 7 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 11 K
Other nominees:
- Jackson Goldsberry, Arapaho-Butler
- Jaxon Lonen, Navajo
- Garrett Ray, Ninnekah
- Jaxon Austin, Roff
Class B
Player of the Week
Tripp Higgins, Hammon Warriors
Hammon stumbled out of the gate the first couple of weeks, but if the 3rd week is any indication, the Warriors will still be a factor in what looks to be a wide open Class B. A big reason for that was Tripp Higgins.
While a lot of teams were playing in tournament and other events, Hammon quietly won 3 games last week. Higgins provided the spark offensively for the Warriors including hitting for the cycle in a game vs FGFS.
Higgin’s line (3 games): .667/.667/1.556, HR, 6 RBI, 3 2B, 3B, 2 BB, 5 R, 2 SB
Other nominees:
- Easton Welch, Asher
- Kase Smith, Coleman
- Max Branson, Leedey
- Hunter Hughes, Mill Creek
- Dallin Whitaker, Stuart
Pitcher of the Week
Cason Foster, Asher Indians
Another team that seemed to have righted the ship this last week was the Asher Indians. The Indians won the Caney Tournament going 3-0.
Asher’s toughest game came in the semi’s against Coleman. Cason Foster took the ball for the Indians and Asher needed everything Foster had as they won the pitcher’s dual, 1-0, advancing to the finals eventually beating Mill Creek for the title (Coleman nominated their pitcher from that game).
Foster’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, 7 IP, 2 H, 0 R, BB, 9 K
Other nominees:
- Silas Walters, Coleman
- Tripp Higgins, Hammon
- Brayden Knight, Mill Creek
- Bartlett Patterson, Stuart
