The weekly SSBR Fall Elite Eight is sponsored this season by our partner, Conner Darnell Designs. If you have a need for a graphic designer, photographer, or sports media, give Conner a look at his website: connerdarnelldesigns.com.
Here at SSBR we try to have fun with what we do. We cover a sport that is supposed to be fun and we want to convey that in our content.
One of the ways we do it is by doing our version of a ranking system. We take all the teams regardless of classification and do our best to rank them on how they are doing relative to their class.
*In the Spring we have the caveat that says we are not ranking them on a “head to head” basis. In the Fall since teams may play each other regardless of class more regularly, “head to head” is more of a factor.
We also do our rankings based on results more than what we think who would necessarily win a game. If a spot comes down to two teams, if they’ve played head to head the result of that game weighs heavily in that decision. (The first week’s rankings, however, do have what a team’s expectations for the season factored in, but as the season goes along it will be the results that matter.)
In the Spring we do a “Sweet Sixteen. In the Fall we do an “Elite Eight.” because there aren’t as many teams as the Spring, but six is too little for the Fall
As always, this is for fun so please treat it as such.

Previous ranking: 1
Last week: 3-0
Preston kept rolling on last week going 3-0 and winning their own tournament. In their 3 games the Pirates outscored their opponents a combined 28-5. Because of a scheduling snafu, Okay forfeited their opening game vs Preston in the Preston Invitational before the Pirates beat Oktaha, 9-3, and Stuart, 7-2, in the championship game.
This week: Tue vs Glencoe; Thurs-Sat at Cameron Tournament
2. Okarche Warriors (A), 12-1
Previous ranking: 2
Last week: 4-0
No one had a better week last week than Okarche. The Warriors run ruled then #8 OCA on Tuesday before going 3-0 in the Roff Tournament taking home the title.
What made the Warriors’ week even more impressive is the fact they shutout OCA, Latta, and Calera before allowing 2 runs in the bottom of the 7th against Byng in the championship game of the Roff Tournament.
The week 2 loss head to head against Preston keeps the Warriors in the 2nd spot.
This week: Tues vs Calumet; Fri at AmPo; Sat vs Wright City (at Seminole State College)
3. Byng Pirates (2A), 8-1
Previous ranking: 3
Last week: 2-1
Byng (along with Mill Creek) was the last remaining undefeated team until Saturday when they lost to Okarche in the championship game of the Roff Tournament vs Okarche. The Pirates won their first 2 games of the tournament beating Colbert, 10-4, and then #7 Calumet, 4-2.
This week: Tues at Stonewall; Thurs vs Tupelo; Fri at Latta
4. Silo Rebels (2A), 8-1
Previous ranking: 4
Last week: 3-0
Silo took their talents to the Show Me State in their annual trip to Missouri and they absolutely dominated their competition. The Rebels shut out all of their 3 opponents but a combined score of 37-0. Silo is now not only on a 4 game winning streak, but they’ve shut out all 4 of those opponents.
This week: Tues at Rattan; Thurs vs Calumet & Vanoss (Asher Festival); Fri at Asher (Asher Festival)
5. Dale Pirates (2A), 8-3
Previous ranking: 5
Last week: 3-0
Dale comes in at #5 for the 2nd straight week after going 3-0 in the Hydro-Eakly Labor Day Tournament (they are in the championship game scheduled for Monday). The Pirates beat Hydro-Eakly, 14-1, Leedey, 9-5, and Navajo, 8-0. The highlight of the week was Briar Turman’s perfect game against Navajo as he threw 5 innings in the run rule and struck out 9 batters on only 68 pitches.
This week: Mon vs TBD in H-E Labor Day final; Thurs vs Calumet (Asher Festival); Fri vs New Lima & Vanoss (Asher Festival)
6. Leedey Bison (B), 11-2
Previous ranking: NA
Last week: 5-1
Leedey make their debut in the Elite Eight this week after winning 5 games this past week. Leedey is still alive in the Hyrdo-Eakly Labor Day Tournament even though they have a loss (to #5 Dale). The Bison are two of Arapaho-Butler’s threes losses and they have wins over other top Class B teams Dover and Hammon.
This week: Mon vs FCB (H-E Labor Day); Tues at Hammon; Thurs at Arapaho-Butler, Fri at Vici
7. Navajo Indians (A), 10-4
Previous ranking: NR
Last week: 3-1
We have a new contender in Class A. Navajo started play 3-0 in the Hydro-Eakly Labor Tournament with wins over Binger-Oney, then #6 Canute, and Ft Cobb-Broxton before dropping their game to #5 Dale.
With Class A seeming to be wide open after Okarche at the top, Navajo has put themselves in the conversation. Two of the Indians’ losses have been made up (FCB and Union City).
This week: Mon vs Leedey/FCB (H-E Labor Day Tourney); Tues at Canute; Thurs at Granite; Fri-Sat at Elk City Festival
8. Colbert Leopards (2A), 8-4
Previous ranking: NR
Last week: 3-1
The Leopards were one bad inning away from going 4-0 this past week. However, they did lose to #3 Byng in the first round of the Roff Tournament. Colbert bounced back from that by beating Roff in extras then Latta in the consolation final to go 2-1 at the tournament. Colbert opened the week with a good win at Calera.
The Leopard get the edge over OCA for the 8th spot based on their overall schedule. While the Eagles have only 2 losses, the Leopards quality of wins outweigh OCA’s.
This week: Tues at Vanoss; Thurs at Rock Creek
Other Teams Considered (in alphabetical order)
- Calumet (B), 7-3
- OCA (2A), 10-2
- Stuart (B), 10-5
