We roll into week 3 of the OSSAA Fall baseball season this week and we’ve got some intriguing games ahead of us.

  • We’ve got a marquee matchup on Monday as SSBR #2 visits SSBR #8
  • We’ve got a few teams looking to establish themselves in their various classes
  • We’ve got two teams who met in the state championship last year both needing a big win

Things look a little different this week as Calumet is holding their Fall Festival on Monday and Tuesday.

The home team is listed first

Calera Bulldogs (2A, 6-2) vs Colbert Leopards (2A, 6-3), Monday, August 25

This is a game between 2 teams looking to establish themselves in the upper echelon of Class 2A.

Calera started the season with 6 straight wins, but they’ve lost their last 2 games not scoring a run in either of those losing to Byng, 1-0, and Silo, 4-0, in the Tupelo Tournament.

Colbert comes into this game winner of 3 straight and coming off winning their own tournament. They beat Amber-Pocasset in the championship game, 6-2.

(#8) OCA Eagles (2A, 8-1) vs (#2) Okarche Warriors (2A, 8-1), Monday, August 25

OCA made their first ever appearance in an SSBR rankings this week after starting the season 8-1. They have wins over Ripley (2x), Wright City, and they are the “1” in Arapaho-Butler’s loss column. They are coming off a 2nd place finish in the Varnum Tournament where they lost the championship game to Stuart by a walk off balk in the 8th inning. As good as the Eagles’ start has been, this will be a huge step up in competition against Okarche.

Okarche also comes in at 8-1, but they have win over Dale (2x), Canute, Ft Cobb-Broxton (2x), and Cameron. The Warriors are coming off a 3rd place finish in the Oktaha Tournament where they lost to #1 Preston in pool play.

Mulhall-Orlando Panthers (B, 7-0) vs Dover Longhorns (B, 7-2), Monday, August 25

With Class B looking like it may be more wide open it has been the last few year, these are two teams looking to establish themselves in Class B.

Mulhall-Orlando owns the current 2nd longest winning streak in the state at 7 (Mill Creek has 8). Honestly, the Panthers’ schedule hasn’t exactly been a gauntlet, but they’ve done what they’re supposed to do with their closest run differential in those games 6 runs.

While Dover does have 2 losses on the season, they are coming into this game winners of their last seven games. After losing their first 2 to Ripley and Leedey, the Longhorns have won 7 straight with the closest a 7-1 over 2024-2025 2x state semifinalist, Hammon.

Tupelo Tigers (B, 4-5) vs Boswell Scorpions (B, 4-2), Tueday, August 26

Two teams that seem to always be in the mix for the Class B state tournament, Tupelo and Boswell both need a win to stop the bleeding.

Tupelo has been a Jekyll and Hyde situation this season. They have a shutout win over Stuart and a run rule over Moss, but they are coming off 2 straight losses in their tournament to not even make it to Saturday.

Boswell started the season with 4 straight wins, but they’ve lost their last 2 games. In the semis of the Coleman Tournament, the Scorpions lost to the host school after having a 3-0 lead early. Boswell then lost to Kiowa 12-11, but the Scorpions scored 5 in the last inning to make it that close.

Wright City (A, 7-4) vs Rattan Rams (A, 4-4), Thursday, August 28

This is a game between rivals in southeast Oklahoma that both need a big win that could jump start the rest of their seasons.

Wright City is the 2x state champion from last school year, but they’ve been up and down this Fall season. Owning wins over Oktaha and Colbert, the Jax have also been shut out twice (Silo and Union City) and a run rule loss to Stuart. Another loss to OCA in the Varnum Tournament was a game they scored only 1 run.

Rattan has also had a start to the season that is atypical of the Rams. They lost in a shocker to the JV squad of Dale in the Dale Invitational before being knocked out by Colbert. A shut out loss to Oktaha followed and they lost to Howe, 15-1, in the first round of the Oktaha Tournament after beating the Lions just a few days before. The Rams may have found something though winning their last 2 games vs Oktaha and Cameron.
