The Summer break is almost over and schools in Oklahoma will begin the 2025-2026 school soon. That also means that it is almost time for the 2025 High School Fall season to start.

The season officially opens on Monday, August 11 (or sooner if both schools are already in session). For the next few weeks, we will be previewing several teams as they look forward to the season.

Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the head coaches of the schools playing baseball this Fall. We asked about their returning players, top players, strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment of where their teams are and could be.

Outfield

Looking at the history of Cameron baseball, the Yellowjackets were one of the top small schools in the 1990’s. The won a total of 11 State Championships (9 Spring, 2 Fall) between 1989 and 1998. They also made the state tournament every year from 1987-1998 in the Fall and every year from 1988-2000 in the Spring.

However, the state tournament had not been in the cards for the Yelllowjackets until last Spring where they qualified for the A-2 state tournament losing to eventual state champ, Canute, in the opening round.

That is what head coach, Kevin Lomon, hopes the Yellowjackets can build on.

Coach Lomon says the pitching and defense will be the strength of this team as they begin that quest. If Cameron can put the ball in play, catch the ball, and play as a team, Coach Lomon believes this team can get back to the state tournament in October.
