The Summer break is almost over and schools in Oklahoma will begin the 2025-2026 school soon. That also means that it is almost time for the 2025 High School Fall season to start.

The season officially opens on Monday, August 11 (or sooner if both schools are already in session). For the next few weeks, we will be previewing several teams as they look forward to the season.

Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the head coaches of the schools playing baseball this Fall. We asked about their returning players, top players, strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment of where their teams are and could be.

Outlook

Few programs in the Sooner State have the tradition that Roff has. The Tigers have qualified for the Fall state tournament a total of 21 times (including 4 state championships since 2009). They made 7 straight Fall state tournaments from 2017-2023. In the Spring they’ve made 33 state tournaments including every season between 2002-2023. They won 9 Spring state championships in that time and 10 total.

That is why the 2024-2025 school year was a bit of a shock when the Tigers finished with a losing record in the Fall and did not quality for either state tournament.

The Tigers look to turn that around this year as they look to build off the momentum at the end of the Spring season. The Tigers finished one game away from the state tournament losing to Tupelo in the “if necessary game” in Regionals.

Roff comes into the Fall with depth and versatility, especially on the infield according to head coach, Derek Collins. While the newcomers help in that department, Collins say that they will need to “integrate (them) to the program.” He feels that while there “might be some growing pains early, they will be better later in the year.” That is what Collins wants to see – “playing their best baseball at the end of the season.”
