The Summer break is almost over and schools in Oklahoma will begin the 2025-2026 school soon. That also means that it is almost time for the 2025 High School Fall season to start.
The season officially opens on Monday, August 11 (or sooner if both schools are already in session). For the next few weeks, we will be previewing several teams as they look forward to the season.
Recently, SSBR sent out questionnaires to the head coaches of the schools playing baseball this Fall. We asked about their returning players, top players, strengths/weaknesses, and their overall assessment of where their teams are and could be.

Outlook
When Coach Blackburn took over in Canute prior to the 2023-2024 school year, he inherited a program that had to rebuild. The Trojans were coming off a multi year stretch of state tournament appearances in both the Spring and Fall, but the majority of the players on those teams had graduated.
Over time, the wins started coming and in the first Spring season under Blackburn, the Trojans made the Class A State Tournament in 2024.
After getting upset in Regionals in the Fall of 2024, Canute put everything together and won the Class A-2 State Championship this past Spring.
Coming into this Fall season, the Trojans return 8 full time starters from that Spring lineup along with another who spot started when needed. They are led by senior, Jake Beutler, who is as good as any player across the state of Oklahoma. Don’t be fooled though, there is talent up and down the lineup and the Trojans can beat you in several ways.
What makes Canute even more dangerous this Fall is the fact they haven’t been to the State Tournament in the Fall in the last 2 years. Coming off a Spring State Championship, Coach Blackburn says they are “confident and still hungry, (but) need to prove ourselves in the Fall.” He has put a tough schedule together that he feels should prepare them to make another run in the postseason.
Look for the Trojans to not only contend for a State Tournament berth, look for them to be a State Championship contender.
