The 2025 MLB Draft is fast approaching. The draft will be 20 rounds over 3 days and starts on Sunday, July 13.
It will be a part of the MLB All Star Game festivities in Atlanta with the first 3 rounds on Sunday, July 13, starting at 5:00 p.m. (CDT) and can be seen on both the MLB Network and ESPN. Rounds 4-20 will begin on Monday, July 14, at 10:30 a.m. and will be streamed on MLB.com.
Just like previous years, the Sooner State will be well represented and this year it should be represented early. A total of 3 Sooner State alums are expected to go no later than the first 15 pick with 2 of them possibly going in the top 5 with some “experts” projecting either of those 2 going number 1.
Leading up the the draft, we will take a look at a total of 10 players projected to go in the draft from the state of Oklahoma, but expect more names from the Sooner State to be called over the 2 days. (Caden Powell was not talked about by anyone last year and he was taken in the 6th round by the Astros.)
Today’s player: Sean Youngerman
Youngerman spent 2025 in Stillwater after spending his first 2 collegiate seasons at Westmont in California where he was part of the NAIA National Champions in 2023 (Westmont moved to NCAA D2 in 2024).
He was used back and forth between the bullpen and starting rotation with the Pokes before settling in as a starter in the late stretch of the season. It doesn’t seem to be a coincidence that the late season surge for the Cowboys coincided with Youngerman being in the starting rotation late.
His best outing of the season with an 8 inning domination of Kansas St on April 6 where he gave up only 3 hits and struck out 11 Wildcats vs no walks.
Because he wasn’t added to the rotation until late in the season, Youngerman was 3 innings shy of qualifying for the national stats for ERA. Otherwise, he would’ve had one of the best ERA’s in the country at 2.08
He has a big frame at 6’3″ that will most likely allow Youngerman to add to his low to mid 90’s fastball.

Scouting Grades Reports
*When looking at the scouting grades, MLB uses a “20-80” system: 20-30 is well below average, 40 is below average, 50 is average, 60 is above average, 70-80 is well above average.

Youngerman began his college career at Westmont (Calif.), where he won a NAIA championship as a freshman in 2023. After starring in the Cape Cod League last summer, he has thrived at Oklahoma State despite being bounced back and forth between the rotation and bullpen. He would have ranked in the NCAA Division I top five in ERA (2.08), K/BB ratio (7.4) and WHIP (0.87) if he hadn’t fallen three innings shy of qualifying.
Youngerman sits at 92-94 mph and touches 96 with his riding fastball as a starter, and he finds a couple more ticks of velocity as a reliever. He relies heavily on his heater because he has trouble landing his tight mid-80s slider for strikes. He has a decent changeup with similar velocity that fades and helps him keep left-handers in check.
While Youngerman’s pitches have just ordinary shapes, they work because he commands them well. He has a strong 6-foot-3 frame and scouts have no concerns about his ability to start at the next level. His ability to enhance his secondary pitches will determine his long-term success.

Outlook
Youngerman looks to be a one year guy in Stillwater with his projections being an early Day 2 pick. As stated above, he has a frame that teams thinks they can add velo to as well as work on his other pitches. His fastball is already plus and that is a good starting point for him.
His biggest asset right now is control. If Youngerman can improve his velo on his fastball and get his secondary pitches (slider and change up) to compliment that, he looks to have a solid professional career ahead of him.
