When Sooner State Baseball Report started in 2023, one of the things we did was try to evaluate who the best high school team in the state is relative to their level of play. We did that by creating the SSBR Dominant Dozen.
We take a look at who each team’s performance and the level of competition they have played. As the season goes on, head to head competition will obviously become more of a factor as well.
For example, are we saying that teams at the lower classes are better than say the top 6A teams? Maybe, maybe not. Most of the top upper teams have more depth than the lower class teams and they would most likely win a series with them. But relative to their level, those lower class teams may be having a better season than the upper class teams.
It is not an exact science, but when we do the rankings we look at a number of factors. Win/loss record. How is that team doing against their own class? How did they do versus teams in classifications higher than theirs? District play for 3A-6A teams. Head to head.
Using those factors we rank the teams based on how they are doing relative to their level.
As a reminder, our first two Dominant Dozen champs were Tuttle (4A) in 2023 and Oktaha (2A) in 2024.
*The Rankings this year have expanded to 16, thus the “Sweet Sixteen.”
This is for fun, so please treat it as such.
Let’s take a look at the rankings for Week 8.

The First 8
We have a new #1 this week as Blanchard (4A, 27-1) is the 4th team overall and the 3rd in the last 3 weeks to claim the top spot. The Lions went 2-0 this week and went undefeated in district. They are also the only team to lay claim to the fact they haven’t lost to an Oklahoma squad this season. (Too bad we didn’t get to see them play Wright City this Saturday as it was rained out.)
Owasso (6A, 30-1) moves up one spot to #2 this week. After their loss to Sand Springs two weeks ago, the Rams have won 5 straight and can clinch a district championship this week.
Moving up to #3 this week is Dale (2A-1, 24-3). The Pirates continue their rise the last 4 weeks. They’ve won 11 in a row with 4 of them this past week. They beat A-2 #2 Canute and 2A-1 #3 and SSBR #11 Calera in what could be a preview of a state championship game.
Wright City (A-1, 23-3) jumps up to #4 this week. The Jax have won 9 in a row and 16 of their last 17 with their lone loss an extra inning affair at Rattan.
Edmond Memorial (6A, 26-5) comes in at #5 this week. The Bulldogs went 3-2 this week with the 2 games vs out of state teams in the River City Classic in Kansas.
Moving up to #6 this week is Newcastle (4A, 28-4). The Racers went undefeated this week and have won 6 in a row since being upset at OCS. While there are several top teams in 4A, the Racers and Blanchard look like the top of the class at this point.
Bixby (6A, 26-6) moves up to #7 this week. The Spartans went 3-0 this past week and they play Stillwater in a district series this week with the District 6A-4 title on the line.
Sliding to #8 is Dewar (A-1, 29-2). After starting the season with 28 straight wins, the Dragons dropped 2 straight one to Tushka in run rule fashion and another to Latta 8-4.
The Next 8
Bethany (4A, 23-5) moves up to #9 after debuting at 12 last week. The Bronchos have won 6 straight including wins over Tuttle and Elk City.
Calera (2A-1, 24-3) moves up to #10 in spite of losing a game last week. The Bulldogs lost a 1 run game to Dale, but won their other 3 games including a win over Cashion who is ranked #2 in 2A-1 by the OSSAA coaches.
Debuting in the Sweet Sixteen this week is Duncan (5A, 29-5) at #11. The Demons have won 13 in a row including a sweep over rival Elgin last week to claim the District 5A-2 championship.
Elgin (5A, 23-6) drops to #12 this week after their losses to Duncan as mentioned above.
Staying put at 13, 14, and 15 respectively are Tuttle (4A, 26-6), Elk City (4A, 20-3), and Ft Cobb-Broxton (B, 19-8) after they all went undefeated last week.
Sliding to #16 this week is Hilldale (4A, 24-3). The Hornets went 2-1 last week with the loss coming after they clinched the District 4A-8 championship.
