The 2025 season is here and so are the weekly SSBR awards. Last year we began bringing attention to individual performances turned in by those on small college (NCAA D2, NAIA, NCCAA) teams and junior colleges.

Each week we send out nomination forms to the head coaches of each team in the various divisions above. We ask them to nominate only 1 position player and 1 pitcher with their stats for the week and any context they feel would help their player. We look at those nominations and choose the player or pitcher in each category that we feel had the best week. Also, each player or pitcher nominated will get recognized even if they don’t win.

This week was a little different as the weather caused havoc on the schedule. Teams played less games or no games at all so the sample sizes were smaller. Also, several weekend series weren’t completed until Monday, so we pushed back the award a day as well.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the winners for Week 11.

Small College

Player of the Week

Ravaughn Morgan, OK Wesleyan Eagles

OK Wesleyan is in the middle of a great season. The Eagles are 38-5 and tied atop the KCAC standings. They are an offensive machine and a big part of that is the play of Ravaughn Morgan.

The preseason NAIA All American is currently hitting .399 with 11 HRs and 57 RBI. A total of 31 of his 65 hits are of the extra base hits variety.

Morgan was even more impressive this week. Check out his stat line.

Morgan’s line: G 4, .500/.609/1.667 (2.276 OPS), 4 HR, 13 RBI, 4 BB, HBP, 13 R, SB

Other nominees:
– Gage Ninness, USAO
– Chase Gordon, NWOSU
– Wlmer Henrigquez, Cameron

Pitcher of the Week

Will Kates, NWOSU Rangers

Last week we told you about how the NWOSU Rangers were surging of late while we named Dawson Toborg as the Pitcher of the Week. This week it is a different Ranger pitcher that gets the honor.

The Newcastle HS alum, Kates has moved into the “ace” role for the Rangers over the last month and a half and anchored the NWOSU staff. Starting with his Feb 24 start vs Arkansas Tech, Kates has thrown 54 innings (8 starts) and given up only 12 earned runs (2.00 ERA). He has 41 strikeouts against only 17 walks in those starts as well.

This week he guided the Rangers to a game 1 win over Henderson State.

Kate’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, 6.2 IP, 5 H, 2 ER, 8 K

Other nominees:
– Ryan Cullinane, USAO
– Josh Martinez, Cameron

Junior College

Player of the Week

Austin Haley, Murray State Aggies

There is not much more to say about the season Austin Haley is having in Tishomingo. This is the sophomore’s 3rd Player of the Week and 4 overall award (he won Pitcher of the Week in Week 1).

Once again, Haley led the Aggies as Murray State took 3 of 4 games against UA Rich Mountain and they are atop the Region 2 standings.

Haley’s line: G 4, .750/.824/1.333 (2.167 OPS), HR, 4 RBI, 2B, 3B, 5 BB, HBP, 6 R, SB

Other nominees:
– Kahne Nolen, Eastern

Pitcher of the Week

Kamden Thompson, Eastern OK State Mountaineers

The Mountaineers took 2 of 3 games vs Seminole State to stay in touch in Region 2. Eastern, Seminole State, Connors State, and NEO are all within 1 game of each other so when a team gets a start like the one Thompson gave the Mountaineers vs Seminole, it is big time

Thompson’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, SO, 9 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 6 K

Other nominees:
– Cash Kuiper, Murray State
