We are now in the middle of April and that means we are approaching the 1/4 pole for the home stretch of the 2025 regular season for our small colleges and junior colleges.

It is hard to believe we are here already, but now is a good time to see exactly where our teams are in their conference standings and what are the scenarios to reach their post season tournaments.

NAIA

Sooner Athletic Conference

Let’s start with the Sooner Athletic Conference at the NAIA level. The SAC actually starts their postseason tournament next weekend (April 25-26) with the 8 team field. The top 4 seeds will host best of 3 series to see who moves on to the 4 team double elimination tournament at USAO the following weekend (May 2-4). Seed 1 will host 8, 2 vs 7, 3 vs 6, and 4 vs 5. Three Oklahoma schools could host that first weekend.

MACU Evangels

  • Current position: 2nd
  • Best case finish: 1st
  • Worst case finish: 2nd

The Evangels are 1 game out of 1st place. Unfortunately, the Evangels dropped their series at Wayland Baptist so the Pioneers have the tie breaker for 1st. MACU hosts OCU this weekend while WBU hosts Central Christian. It’ll be a tall feat for MACU to leap past WBU considering who the Pioneers are playing, but it is mathematically possible for the Evangels.

USAO Drovers

  • Current position: 3rd
  • Best case finish: 3rd
  • Worst case finish: 4th

Even if the Drovers swept their series vs Texas Wesleyan this weekend, the best they can do is tie MACU in the record column, but the Evangels hold the tie breaker head to head. If the Drovers finish in a tie with Southwestern Christian, they will be the 3 seed based on their series win vs the Eagles.

Southwestern Christian Eagles

  • Current position: 4th
  • Best case finish: 3rd
  • Worst case finish: 5th*

If SCU wins just one game this weekend, they will finish no worse than 4th and host an opening series. For the Eagles to jump to 3rd, they’ll need to finish one game of the Drovers since USAO beat them in their series. If the Eagles get swept by Nelson this weekend, they’ll fall to 5th losing the tiebreaker to Nelson.

*They shouldn’t drop farther than 5th due to winning their series with both OCU and TWU if they are tied with them.

Oklahoma City Stars

  • Current position: 7th
  • Best case finish: 5th
  • Worst case finish: 8th

It’s weird seeing OCU at this position, but the most important thing at this point is they are in the tournament. Still the Stars could finish as high as 5th if they finish 1 game clear of Texas Wesleyan. The Stars do have the tiebreaker vs Nelson so if they finish in a tie, they have the advantage. However, the Stars can finish in 8th place if the college of the Ozarks win 2 more games than OCU does this weekend. Fortunately for OCU, they hold the tiebreaker head to head with COFO.

OK Panhandle State Aggies

Unfortunately, the Aggies are eliminated from postseason contention and this will be their last weekend of play in 2025.

Kansas Collegiate Athletic Conference

OK Wesleyan Eagles

  • Current position: T1
  • Best case finish: 1st
  • Worst case finish: 3rd

The Eagles are in a good spot. Although they are tied with Kansas Wesleyan, both teams are 3 games clear of Ottawa. For the Eagles, they control their own destiny. Win their next 2 series, they are #1. The kicker? They host Kansas Wesleyan this weekend and Ottawa the next. If the Eagles do, unfortunately, lose both series they will drop to 3rd but no further because the best Friends can do is tie OKWU but the Eagles own the tiebreaker.

*The original post had Southwestern Christian winning the tiebreaker with USAO in error. This latest update to this post shows the correct scenario
