The 2025 season is here and so are the weekly SSBR awards. Last year we began bringing attention to individual performances turned in by those on small college (NCAA D2, NAIA, NCCAA) teams and junior colleges.

Each week we send out nomination forms to the head coaches of each team in the various divisions above. We ask them to nominate only 1 position player and 1 pitcher with their stats for the week and any context they feel would help their player. We look at those nominations and choose the player or pitcher in each category that we feel had the best week. Also, each player or pitcher nominated will get recognized even if they don’t win.

This week was a little different as the weather caused havoc on the schedule. Teams played less games or no games at all so the sample sizes were smaller. Also, several weekend series weren’t completed until Monday, so we pushed back the award a day as well.

Without further ado, let’s take a look at the winners for Week 10.

Small College

Player of the Week

Colby Grace, NWOSU Rangers

NWOSU has seen a resurgence as of late. The Rangers are currently riding a 10 game winning streak and are firmly inside the top 8 of the GAC for a postseason tournament spot. A big part of that is the offense and Colby Grace has been providing a lot of it. Grace was incredible this past week in the Rangers’ 4 games including a sweep of OBU at home.

Grace’s line: G 4, .643/.765/1.214 (1.979 OPS), 2 HR, 7 RBI, 2 2B, 4 BB

Other nominees:
– Corey Morro, USAO

Pitcher of the Week

Dawson Toborg, NWOSU Rangers

When it comes to dishing out Pitcher of the Week awards, too often the relievers get overlooked. They don’t pitch enough innings or some other excuse will be made as to why they don’t deserve it.

When you look at Toborg’s week last week, what a luxury it was for NWOSU Head Coach, Ryan Bowen had turning the game over to Toborg in the late innings. In his 3 appearances last week, Toborg had 2 saves and a win. It was the win vs OBU that stood out.

The Rangers were cruising until the 7th inning when OBU started to rally. After giving up 5 runs to the Bison, Bowen called on Toborg’s number. He came in and got the Rangers out of the inning with no more runs given up and shut down OBU the rest of the was to allow NWOSU to claim the win.

Toborg’s line: G 3, 1-0, 2 SV, 4 IP, 3 H, 0 R, 0 BB, 4 K

Other nominees:
– Brian Ereu, USAO

Junior College

Player of the Week

N/A

We did not receive any nominations for JUCO Player of the Week

Pitcher of the Week

Kamden Edge, NOC Tonkawa

When talking about the Mavs’ performance so far in 2025, most focus on what they are doing at the plate. NOC Tonkawa is one of the best offensive teams in the country.

However, don’t overlook what they can do on the mound. Kamden Edge has been one of the starters for Tonkawa this season and in their biggest game of the season (to date), Edge got the start and shut down NOC Enid while his offense took care of business. Edge was so good he didn’t allow a hit and his offense was so good, the game was over after 5 innings.

Edge’s line: G 1/GS 1, 1-0, CG, 5 IP, 0 H, 0 R, 2 BB, 2 K

Other nominees:
– N/A
